This trend continues with the latest episode, which develops an unexpected bond between Abe Simpson and Moe Szyslak based on their shared passion for the Springfield Isotopes baseball team. Over nearly four decades of “The Simpsons” animated series, viewers have occasionally caught glimpses into the family history of the Simpsons, especially through Grampa Simpson. In this episode, we find ourselves traveling back in time to when young Abner “Grampa” Simpson attended a Springfield Isotopes game with his grandfather. They were overjoyed that the team’s players managed to avoid war duty, allowing them to continue playing. This fond memory meant a great deal to Abe. Years later, he cherished the thought of watching a game from those very same seats with his grandson one day.

In “The Simpsons,” we see the significant debut of Grandpa Simpson, known as Oswald John Simpson or “Old Tut.” Though he’s been mentioned before in earlier seasons, this is his first full appearance with his current design, which took place during Season 28 in the episode “A Father’s Watch.” Interestingly, this wasn’t just a silent cameo; Oswald was shown strangling Abe’s father Orville due to his disapproval of how Orville was choking Abe (since Orville was working as a professional child abuser at that time). This flashback is quite significant in the history of “The Simpsons” animation.
