NCIS: Origins Season 1 Finale Reveals Gibbs’ Future and a Shocking Twist on Lala

Warning! Spoilers ahead for NCIS: Origins season 1 finale, “Cecilia.”

The initial season of NCIS: Origins has concluded, and the finale was packed with thrilling scenes. This spin-off of NCIS marks a unique start as a prequel, and the first season of NCIS: Origins has provided us with exceptional moments focusing on the NIS team. While the concept initially revolved around tracing Gibbs’ life post his family’s demise, NCIS: Origins has impressively evolved to present the histories behind each member of Gibbs’ team.

By transforming “NCIS: Origins” from a typical police procedural into a more dramatic series, the show has managed to explore richer narratives compared to its usual format. The characters in “NCIS: Origins,” who are distinct and captivating with their personal struggles, have been particularly brought to light during the season finale. Although Gibbs is the central figure of the show, “NCIS: Origins” has gained recognition for focusing on other characters’ stories, and this was most evident in the way everyone’s lives intersected in the final episode.

Jackson Gibbs Returns

The Gibbs Men Reunite

In the final scene, Jackson Gibbs, Leroy Gibbs’ father, made a comeback, bringing about a touching reunion. Earlier in NCIS: Origins, their relationship had been strained as Jackson encouraged his son to return home, leading to an argument between them. However, this reconciliation may not last long before they find themselves disagreeing again.

In their meeting once more, Jackson persuades Gibbs to arrange a memorial service for Shannon and Kelly, providing him with solace as he copes with their loss. He also assists Gibbs in selling his family home. Despite the positive outcome of their reunion, the series canon shows that they won’t communicate for several years following the funeral, which suggests that their bond may soon fray again.

How Lara Macy Is Connected To Lala & Pedro Hernandez’s Case

Macy Investigates The Pedro Hernandez Case

In the series NCIS, Lara Macy reappears as a young military police officer probing the homicide of Pedro Hernandez. Additionally, NCIS: Origins uncovers that she and Lala are close friends who often collaborate on cases and share insights. Upon her arrival in NCIS: Origins, Macy contacts Lala first, seeking her assistance with Macy’s investigation concerning Gibbs’ role.

The key highlight of the final episode of NCIS: Origins revolves around the bond shared by Macy and Lala. This friendship serves as the catalyst for her probe into Gibbs, and it ultimately concludes the investigation. Interestingly, Macy, who was first introduced in the finale of NCIS: Origins, is connected to Gibbs through a phone conversation she overhears early in the season.

Gibbs Is Ready To Sacrifice Himself To Macy (But Lala Saves Him)

Gibbs Turns Over His Rifle

One of the thrilling instances in the episode unfolds when Gibbs eventually agrees to let Macy inspect his gun, which happens to be the same firearm used in Pedro Hernandez’s murder. Earlier, Macy persistently presses Gibbs for the whereabouts of his weapon, with Gibbs initially stating that it was stolen. It appears that Gibbs is determined to maintain his innocence; however, he ultimately hands over the gun to Macy and acknowledges firing at Hernandez.

It appears that Gibbs may be in trouble, but Lala intervenes by heading to Macy’s home to retrieve the gun. However, complications arise when Macy points a gun at her friend and demands she surrender the weapon. Despite this, Lala’s heartfelt plea that she could potentially be linked to the crime and that arresting Gibbs would devastate her life as well, eventually convinces Macy to halt the investigation, thus preventing Gibbs from serving a prison sentence.

Gibbs & Lala Share An Intimate Moment, But It’s Cut Short

The Moment Could Have Expanded But Gibbs Ruins It

In the final episode of “NCIS: Origins“, the long-standing tension between Gibbs and Lala reached its climax. When Gibbs discovered Lala swimming in her neighbor’s pool, she invited him to join her, but he opted to swim alongside instead. As they swam close together, there was a brief pause where an intimate moment almost occurred – they nearly shared a kiss, but just as it happened, Gibbs spoke up and spoiled the special moment.

Gibbs informs Lala that he handed over the murder weapon, which left her greatly surprised. For the majority of the episode, Gibbs, Franks, and Lala collaborated to bypass Macy’s investigation. However, when Gibbs admitted to giving up his rifle, Lala came to understand that Gibbs resembles Franks in his self-serving actions. He doesn’t seem to grasp that this endeavor impacts the team, and she promptly exits the pool.

Gibbs Meets Diane Sterling

Diane Sterling Is Gibbs’ Second Wife

In the final episode of NCIS: Origins, there’s fantastic news: Gibbs encounters his second wife, Diane Sterling, who later became a cherished friend. You may recall that Diane was a notable figure in NCIS, making appearances throughout the years as both Gibbs’ and Tobias’ former spouse. She was also an intriguing character who held great significance for Gibbs, despite their occasional disagreements.

In the TV series NCIS: Origins, when Diane arrives on screen, she’s the realtor who sells Gibbs’ family house. The spot where they first meet is significant as it symbolizes the end of one phase and the start of another. What adds a touch of humor to this scenario is that Diane bears a striking resemblance to Shannon, which could make her an ideal match for Gibbs since she seems so recognizable right off the bat.

Lala Gets Into A Car Crash

Lala’s Fate Is Open For Interpretation

The most disappointing aspect of the NCIS: Origins finale is its climactic scene, where Lala deliberately causes a car accident to prevent hitting a young girl who had darted into the road. Gibbs’ narration serves as a bridge back to the pilot episode, implying that Lala was the central character of NCIS: Origins. This leaves her fate uncertain and somewhat ominous.

Despite the announcement of NCIS: Origins season 2 and the uncertainty surrounding Lala’s fate, it remains plausible that she is still alive. Her connection to the NIS team ensures that her storyline has not reached its conclusion yet, leaving ample opportunity for further developments.

How NCIS: Origins Season 1 Finale Sets Up Season 2

The Finale Opened Up Several Storylines

The final episode of NCIS: Origins left some plot threads incomplete. During the show, Franks received several unanswered calls, eventually hearing a cryptic voice claiming to be his brother, discussing their past in Vietnam. In episode 11 of NCIS: Origins, we learned about the brothers’ early lives before being conscripted into the war.

In the final episode, Randy began doubting his role within the NIS team and discussed a desk job with a higher-up, potentially damaging his future prospects. This discussion was abruptly ended, indicating that Randy was under immense pressure. The upcoming season 2 of NCIS: Origins promises significant changes due to Randy’s doubts, Lala’s injury and potential demise, and the arrival of Frank’s brother. However, we can only hope that these developments lead to positive outcomes.
