Actor Kevin Durand shares exciting details about the upcoming movie “Ready or Not: Here I Come,” the sequel to the 2019 horror hit. In an exclusive interview with ComicBook for the new slasher film “Clown in a Cornfield,” Durand discussed working again with directors Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett). He hinted that his character will be quite different from his role in their previous project, the 2024 vampire movie “Abigail.” These comments add to the anticipation for the sequel of “Ready or Not,” praised for its unique blend of horror, humor, and social commentary.
After wrapping up the film “Abigail”, Durand shared with us that he, Matt, Tyler, and himself had made a plan to collaborate on one hundred more movies together. This idea was proposed by Tyler, who said something like, “We want you to do the next hundred movies.” Durand agreed, and even suggested they might do 150 if things go exceptionally well. This enthusiasm for working together showcases the harmonious atmosphere that Radio Silence cultivates on set, a collaborative energy that could prove beneficial for the sequel’s production.
Durand mentioned that he can’t reveal the nature of the role he’s taking in the upcoming project, as it would spoil too much, but assured us it’s really enjoyable. He also emphasized that this character is completely different from his previous one. For instance, his character Peter in ‘Abigail’, a powerful yet helpless mob enforcer who meets a gruesome end, was physically intimidating but ultimately weak. Durand’s new character in ‘Ready or Not: Here I Come’, on the other hand, seems to be a departure from this, possibly portraying an intellectually strong individual, perhaps allied with the protagonist, or even presenting a new kind of threat.
Everything We Know About Ready or Not: Here I Come
In October 2024, Searchlight Pictures officially gave the go-ahead for the sequel of “Ready or Not,” titled “Ready or Not: Here I Come.” This decision marks the continuation of the story of Grace (played by Samara Weaving), who managed to survive the Le Domas family’s ritualistic hunt. Fans can look forward to a similar creative vision driving the project, as the original writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy are penning this new chapter, collaborating with the initial production team. This core group, known for setting the unique tone of the first film, ensures a consistent link to the events and style that captivated audiences. Moreover, Samara Weaving will reprise her role as Grace in the sequel, maintaining the spirit of resilience that defined the original film.
A surge of fresh talent has joined “Here I Come,” suggesting a broader storyline for the sequel. Kathryn Newton, known from “Abigail” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” brings her recent genre expertise to the table. The arrival of Sarah Michelle Gellar, famed for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” generates great anticipation as she re-enters the horror genre. The team is also strengthened by Elijah Wood (from “The Lord of the Rings” and “Yellowjackets”), Shawn Hatosy (“Animal Kingdom”), Néstor Carbonell (“The Morning Show” and “Shōgun”), and lastly, the enigmatic David Cronenberg, a legendary director who is stepping out of his usual role for a rare acting stint in “Here I Come.
As anticipation builds for Durand’s role in the next Ready or Not installment, movie enthusiasts can catch him in the chilling thriller, Clown in a Cornfield. In this tale, I, as Quinn, find myself moving with my father to the tranquil town of Kettle Springs, seeking a new beginning. However, our peace is shattered when we stumble upon a frayed community struggling in the wake of the devastating Baypen Corn Syrup Factory fire. The townsfolk squabble amongst themselves, their discord reaching a boiling point. Then, from the cornfields, an eerie, toothy apparition arises, intent on purifying Kettle Springs through a series of gruesome murders. Welcome to Kettle Springs, where the true entertainment begins once Frendo the clown steps out to play.
As of now, Searchlight Pictures hasn’t specified when we can expect to see the movie “Ready or Not: Here I Come“. On the other hand, “Clown in a Cornfield” is set to appear in theaters starting from May 9th.
