It has been more than a month since the acclaimed 2024 co-op shooter Helldivers 2 (from Arrowhead Game Studios for Windows PC and PS5) received a significant update. This delay has sparked curiosity among players about when the next update might be released. Fortunately, the developers have provided an update to alleviate these concerns. They have confirmed that a new feature similar to a battle pass, called Warbond, will launch in May. Additionally, they hinted at something even bigger in the pipeline as well.
Arrowhead reassured their followers on social media that it’s been some time since the last update but encouraged them with “We’re still simmering away!” The delay in major updates and Warbond releases might have been noticed, but they are pleased to share that a new Warbond will be announced on May 8th. Additionally, more thrilling news is anticipated to follow shortly.
The studio shared that they won’t make a big fuss about explaining Warbond now, but more information will be shared later. In the meantime, Helldivers, maintain your posture, clean your boots, and keep your uniform in excellent condition because you’ll need them for the upcoming battle.
The post was accompanied by an image showing a “Super Earth” flag similar to those used in the tutorial for Helldivers 2. Some believe this could be a hint at a new strategy being introduced in the upcoming Warbond, allowing players to carry and/or plant flags to provide buffs for themselves and their teammates. However, this is merely speculation at this point.
Personally speaking, it’s thrilling to share that an announcement was made right before our triumph over the Illuminate – Helldivers 2’s new enemy faction, which was unveiled last December. This victory came as a result of completing a recent Major Order, where we successfully halted the Meridian Singularity black hole that’s been heading towards Super Earth since February. The aftermath of this battle has left the Illuminate completely erased from the Galactic War map. Super Earth High Command hints that these squids may never return to our galaxy again.
Indeed, it’s clear that not everyone subscribes to this notion. On the contrary, the current wave of jubilation over the supposed defeat of the Illuminate serves as a catalyst for my conviction that the cryptic signs detected in March were indicative of a massive and resolute invasion of Super Earth and its outposts, rather than the occasional surprise attacks by aliens we’ve seen so far.
In my past writings, I expressed my hypothesis that the Meridian black hole would be the point through which the Illuminate would launch an attack, and that they had deliberately placed it on a destructive trajectory across multiple human-governed planets as a means to weaken us and position their forces as near to Super Earth as possible. Now, following what appears to be the Illuminate’s “defeat,” I find myself growing increasingly convinced that my prediction was accurate.

Besides the potential letdown of eliminating a faction so soon after its introduction, I’m quite optimistic that we’ll see the squids again in full strength. This is because, history has shown us a similar pattern. Experienced Helldivers 2 players might remember that we believed the Automatons were completely eradicated last April. However, they retaliated with a massive counter-attack, launching an invasion fleet and introducing new threatening units such as factory striders and gunships.
frankly, I find it hard to believe that nothing comparable won’t happen here, given that the Illuminate currently only have five distinct enemy types (Voteless, Overseers, Elevated Overseers, Harvesters, and Watcher drones). Many have expressed a desire for the faction to be expanded with additional combat units, and in my opinion, this could be an ideal moment for that, especially as we prepare for a significant squid offensive.
In essence, I believe it won’t be long until we learn more, as I don’t anticipate a significant delay following the unveiling of the new Warbond on May 8. Until that moment, we should persist with our ongoing battles against the Automatons and Terminids. It’s crucial to be prepared when the Illuminate resurfaces, so let’s hope the robots and insectoids won’t be knocking at our door before then.
As a tech enthusiast, I can confidently say that Helldivers 2 ranks among the top picks for both PC and PS5 gaming enthusiasts who love cooperative shooters, high-octane sci-fi action, zany physics humor, and satirical writing. Normally priced at around $40, this game is often available at lower prices if you keep an eye out for deals. Currently, the best deal I’ve found is on CDKeys, where you can save nearly $10, making it possible to grab this explosive title for less than $31.
