A well-known writer for Marvel comics might have accidentally leaked some details about the plot of the upcoming “Avengers: Secret Wars” movie, causing quite a stir among fans. The anticipated Avengers collaboration is expected to be an extraordinary Multiverse event, featuring characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), X-Men, and other iconic Marvel film franchises. However, if gossip is true, it could deviate significantly from what we’ve seen in the Marvel Studios lore.
At a recent event, Marvel Comics author Chris Claremont disclosed possible storylines for “Avengers: Secret Wars” during an appearance. During his talk at the Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025, he hinted at what he had learned about both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” emphasizing that actors Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Elizabeth Olsen might rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
At the event, a video of Claremont’s panel was shared on YouTube by CNAtv. The author of Uncanny X-Men, in this video, revealed some potential secrets about Avengers: Secret Wars.
He informed crowds that the upcoming Avengers movie will feature Robert Downey Jr. reprising his roles as previously confirmed Doctor Doom, Iron Man, and “two additional characters.
In addition, he noted that renowned Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Chris Evans will make an appearance in the movie, portraying not just Captain America but also a younger version of the character, an antagonistic Captain America, and Captain Hydra.
Have you come across the advertisement for the upcoming Marvel movie featuring 50 superheroes and 4 supervillains, titled ‘X-Men’ but not exactly ‘X-Men’? It sure sounds similar, but it’s a different production. In this film, Robert Downey Jr. is portraying an antagonist role, Iron Man, and interestingly, he’s also taking on two other characters. I used to be familiar with that, but now Chris Evans is playing Young Captain America, Evil Captain America, and Captain Hydra… or something close to that, either Captain Hydra or Lord Hydra.
Claremont also mentioned Elizabeth Olsen in his remarks, noting that she might return as a strong version of Scarlet Witch, even though her Marvel Cinematic Universe future has been uncertain for some time. Additionally, he brought up characters from the X-Men such as Phoenix and Psylocke.
It seems like they’ve decided to bring back the original cast members for various roles in the upcoming films. For instance, Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising her role as Scarlet Witch, this time portraying a strong version of the character. Whether or not The Vision will return remains uncertain. This feels similar to when the original X-Men team came back for a brief period. We were unsure if Famke Janssen would make a comeback, but she is indeed returning, however, she’ll be portraying Phoenix. As for Psylocke, it appears she’s coming back, but her character will no longer be of Asian origin and will continue wearing the same outfit.
He concluded by mentioning that the film might feature Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, [eliminating] a significant character.
There’s talk that Wolverine will kill a significant character, and I can’t help but wonder why they’d do this and delay the first ‘X-Men’ movie for three years. Why not make it the initial ‘X-Men’ movie instead? It seems unnecessary to me. I just don’t understand the focus on the Avengers.
Keep in mind that, for now and as far as public knowledge goes, Claremont isn’t openly involved in projects like “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Secret Wars”. So, any leaked information or speculation about these titles should be treated cautiously.
As a devoted fan, I can confidently share that the most concrete details we’ve received so far about both “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” are: The Russo Brothers have taken the helm for both movies, they’re set to delve into the Multiversal “Secret Wars” narrative from Marvel comics, and the lineup promises a powerhouse roster of characters spanning the expansive Marvel universe, even bringing back some notable X-Men heroes who’ve made a significant impact.
The upcoming movie “Avengers: Secret Wars” marks the conclusion of this phase in Marvel Cinematic Universe storytelling, referred to as the Multiverse Saga. It’s set to premiere in cinemas on May 7, 2027. This film will draw upon the narrative events from the original “Secret Wars” comic series released in 1984 and its later version from 2015. In these stories, various Marvel realities unite against a common danger, causing a significant reset in the intricate comic book timeline.
Should We Believe The Avengers: Secret Wars Spoilers
Listening to rumored plot details about the upcoming “Avengers: Secret Wars” from a respected figure like Chris Claremont, who’s known as one of the greatest comic book creators, is undeniably thrilling for many fans. Nevertheless, it’s important to remember that what he shared hasn’t been officially verified yet.
His remarks about Secret Wars may not necessarily be untrue, but fans should approach them with caution rather than placing too much weight on them. It’s plausible that his comments stem from information he gathered online, since there’s no official confirmation of his involvement in the movie in a significant capacity.
In fact, it seems that the majority of these spoilers would be comprehensible if “Secret Wars” were indeed brought to life on the big screen by 2027.
The narrative of “Secret Wars” is fundamentally based on multiple universes, with different iterations of the same characters coming into conflict as they fight for the preservation of various timelines. Consequently, it might be logical if actors such as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans reprise multiple roles in the movie (even though Evans has stated he doesn’t have a future in the MCU).
This approach would emphasize the film’s aspects related to different universes (Multiverse) and heavily feature the theme of characters who are versions of each other but differ in some ways (Variant trope). The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been gradually introducing this concept throughout its Multiverse Storyline.
Regarding Scarlet Witch and the X-Men characters that Claremont mentioned, actress Elizabeth Olsen has hinted at her desire to rejoin Marvel Studios in recent months. Furthermore, with legacy X-Men actors already confirmed for the upcoming Avengers duology, it’s possible that other actors might also be planned for a return.
