In the vein of Jason Statham’s films that have been more popular with the public than with critics, “The Hardworking Individual” maintained a storied legacy, albeit not as critically acclaimed as last year’s “The Beekeeper.” However, it still proved to be another triumph for the actor, potentially setting the stage for a larger franchise if Statham and director David Ayer can capitalize on the success of this initial release.

As of now, no follow-up film has been confirmed, but given that the book series which “A Working Man” is adapted from had an extended run, there are numerous possibilities for future projects within the series. One intriguing character from the movie was Gunny Lefferty, a blind ex-marine portrayed by David Harbour, who happened to be one of the key actors in “A Working Man” apart from Jason Statham. If the franchise does expand, Gunny Lefferty would make an excellent choice for a return appearance.

In the film, Harbor’s character didn’t have a significant screen time, appearing merely in a few scenes. However, a crucial scene where Harbor appeared was during the closing moments of “A Working Man,” sharing dinner with Cade following his rescue of Jenny. Harbor played Lefferty, a blind former marine who was the first person Cade contacted when Jenny disappeared. Given this connection and the potential for the movie to be developed into a series, it could logically follow that Harbor’s character would play a more substantial role in future installments, possibly expanding his presence beyond what we saw in the initial release.

A Leading Role For Harbour Would Be An Exciting New Direction For The Sequel

David Harbour’s popularity has been escalating in recent times, particularly following his standout role in Stranger Things. It’s clear that a potential sequel of A Working Man could greatly advantage from increasing Harbour’s character’s presence within the series. His comedic skills would serve as an excellent contrast to the serious character portrayed by Statham, thereby adding a pleasant blend of intensity and humor to the series. Even though the franchise typically maintains a rather intense atmosphere, introducing some comedic elements would keep future films feeling innovative, while still maintaining a heavyweight plotline.

It’s intriguing to imagine more depth for Harbour’s character, especially considering his blindness, which could open up opportunities for inventive action sequences within the series. For instance, Donnie Yen‘s portrayal of Caine in “John Wick 4” was a standout, and it might be beneficial for “A Working Man” to draw inspiration from that film, crafting distinct action scenes centered around a blind combatant. Such characters are rich with creative potential within the action genre, and I hope that if “A Working Man” proceeds, it will offer more focus on his character.
