Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Will be Out as a Free-to-Play Game on PC, iOS and Android on May 21

Approximately a month and a half following the Early Access debut of “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad”, its developer Netmarble has disclosed that the game will officially launch on May 21st. This news was shared with a trailer, which can be viewed below. The game will be available for free across multiple platforms including PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store), Android devices, and iOS.

In a recent announcement, game director Hyunil Jang shared updates on the upcoming title in a message to the gaming community, as reported by WCCFTech. In this post, Jang discussed several aspects of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, including the implementation of matchmaking for up to 12 players in battles against field bosses. This adjustment also means that field bosses will appear less frequently.

During the initial phase, Jang mentioned that Drogon was spawned frequently to encourage a large number of players to participate. However, he pointed out that because Drogon appeared so frequently, players were spread out and it became challenging for groups to gather and fully enjoy the content. To address this issue, they’re considering reducing the daily appearances of Drogon to enhance the group playing experience.

While reducing the number of tries for players might be a change, our goal is to foster an atmosphere where individuals can appreciate and engage with the content collectively.

Additionally, Jang mentioned discussions about enhancing the game’s Role-Playing (RP) system, as players have pointed out a lack of the resource. Players have also shared their feedback indicating that they run out of activities once the RP is exhausted. To solve this issue, the studio plans to introduce more content into the game, such as exploration challenges and cooperative content, which won’t necessitate the use of RP.

Jang mentioned that the purpose behind the RP system was to handle fatigue and let players gain substantial rewards despite having limited game time. However, it seems that several of you have expressed dissatisfaction due to the current supply of RP appearing insufficient, which in turn affected the overall enjoyment. We empathize with your concerns and our team is currently brainstorming changes to enhance the daily RP distribution.

One feedback we’ve received is that players may feel limited once their Role Playing (RP) points are exhausted. While they can still participate in activities like field boss battles or traverse Westeros post-RP usage, it’s clear that more options are needed to sustain engagement. To address this, we’re actively developing additional content such as exploration challenges and cooperative gameplay elements, aiming to provide a richer experience even after RP depletion.

In the current version of “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad,” gamers can only traverse some parts of the landscapes from “A Song of Ice and Fire” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” However, the developers aim to expand this significantly, with the ultimate vision being a complete Westeros within the game. The next significant update will concentrate on integrating the Stormlands into the game.

He mentioned that the upcoming chapter’s tale might take on a slightly somber tone. We’ll delve deeper into the religious aspects, exploring what it would imply for a medieval society like Westeros if their ruler were to demand an immediate shift in faith to a deity whose very name they are unable to utter.
