Any and ArtePiazza announce Tensei Game for Switch – sugoroku-style game with Yuji Horii, Muneyuki Kaneshiro

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the collaborative effort between Japanese studio Any and developer ArtePiazza has unveiled a new project: Tensei Game. This intriguing sugoroku-style game is set to grace the Nintendo Switch via the eShop in Japan by 2026. The catch? It will be exclusively playable in Japanese.

The project is being developed in partnership between Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii and Muneyuki Kaneshiro, the writer of Blue Lock and As the Gods Will, which is their initial collaboration on a project.

Title Game: “Tensei Game” is reimagined as “Reincarnation Rivalry Board Game.” This board game, reminiscent of Sugoroku, revolves around the themes of “reincarnation,” “karma,” and “destiny.” Players aim to “reincarnate” by impeding one another in this competition. As you reincarnate multiple times, you’ll employ karma to hinder and deceive other players. This game is designed around the idea of a “guaranteed friendship-breaker,” where as you get closer to victory, your friendships start unraveling. The game takes place in the dark fantasy realm of the afterlife, Rinnekai, where you’ll meet distinctive characters who aid in this friendship-breaking experience.

Besides just gaming, Tensei Game might be exploring possibilities to extend its reach into various media formats, such as anime, merchandise, and TikTok videos.

The project’s staff is as follows:

  • Planning and Production: Any
  • Adivsor: Yuji Horii
  • Original Concept: Muneyuki Kaneshiro
  • Game Director: Ayaka Sato
  • Character Designer: Shintarou Majima
