Richard Gere’s Wife Alejandra Silva Reveals When Family Will Move Back to the U.S.

Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva are not going to be away forever.

Approximately half a year following their 2018 wedding, this family – consisting of Alexander (age 6), James (age 5), Albert (age 11), and their mother, along with her former partner Govind Friedland – had settled in Spain. However, hints were dropped that they may soon return to the United States, as suggested by the Spanish publicist.

In a conversation with the Daily Mail on the 23rd of April, Alejandra, aged 42, shared her plans: “We’re going to reside in Spain for some years, but we’ll always return. During the summer, we plan to be back here because our children attend camp. We need to find a balance between our lives there and here.

Alejandra confirmed her relationship with the actress famous for playing Pretty Woman, who is also the father of Homer (25 years old) and previously had a relationship with Carey Lowell. This confirmation follows six months after he publicly shared his intentions to travel overseas.

Richard mentioned during his recent interview on ‘The Tonight Show’ that his wife is Spanish and they’ve been living here for about seven years. So, we plan to spend some time in Madrid for a while. But don’t worry, I’ll definitely return!

Meanwhile, the choice was made considering Alejandra’s family, but Richard pointed out that their children would flourish in the fresh surroundings as well.

“Our kids are bilingual,” he explained, “so they’ll flourish.”

As for Richard, he also expressed excitement toward the change of pace.

Last year, a 75-year-old shared with Vanity Fair Spain that heading to Madrid would prove an exciting journey. Having never resided permanently abroad before, they believe the experience will be intriguing not just for them but also their children. For Alejandra, this move means being nearer to her family, longtime friends, and the culture she cherishes.

As a devoted follower, I couldn’t help but pick up on the subtle implication from my former classmate: Alejandra seemed to be preparing herself for the role of family matriarch upon our upcoming move.

He shared that his grandmother was like the bond that kept everyone together, and she had passed away approximately a year and a half ago, or two years back. He went on to describe how he could see his wife taking on the role of the new matriarch in their extended family. She’s already making plans for around 35 people for Sunday lunches.

1. After 19 seasons and amid allegations of a toxic work environment that led to internal investigations, executive dismissals, and public criticism, the talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres ended in 2022.

2. In September 2024, Ellen made her return to the limelight with her final standup special titled “For Your Approval,” available on Netflix. Prior to this, she announced that she would be leaving Hollywood completely. During her Ellen’s Last Stand…Up tour, as reported by SFGate, she told the crowd, “This is the last time you’ll see me.” After her Netflix special, she plans to step away from show business entirely.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share the news that Ellen and her beloved wife, Portia de Rossi, seem to have embarked on a new adventure across the pond. Rumors swirl that this change of scenery might be due to the potential 2024 election win of Donald Trump (though they’ve remained silent about their motivations for this move).

One reason the host of America’s Next Top Model relocated to Australia was to oversee her ice cream brand more effectively. As Tyra explained on an episode of Today with Jenna & Friends in April 2025, “SMiZE and Dream, my ice cream company, has been focusing on B2B sales, such as on airplanes and cruises. I’ve been traveling to Australia frequently due to a large production facility there that produces our ice cream according to our recipes. Every time I visited, I felt more and more drawn to it.”

Not only did she enjoy living there, but she also recognized Australia as a prime market for her business. “The countries with the highest consumption of ice cream?” Tyra added. “America, New Zealand, and Australia.”

With her son York (whose father is her ex Erik Asla) and boyfriend Louis Bélanger-Martin by her side, she moved to Australia, stating, “Australia has been a dream come true for me and my family.

After a significant period living on Wisteria Lane as Desperate Housewives star, Eva found a new real-life residence elsewhere. Speaking to Marie Claire in November 2024, she expressed feelings about leaving LA, stating that even before the pandemic, changes were underway, and the atmosphere felt different. The arrival of Covid further expedited her decision. Although she didn’t want to disparage California, Eva admitted that this phase of her life seemed to be drawing to a close due to factors like homelessness and taxes.

For the past few years, the actress, her husband José Bastón, and their son Santiago have divided their time between Mexico and Spain. She acknowledged her privilege in being able to escape such circumstances, expressing concern for fellow Americans who are stuck in what she described as a dystopian nation.

Eva clarified that her decision wasn’t motivated by President Trump’s re-election but rather due to work commitments. In an interview on The View: Behind the Table podcast in November 2024, she explained that she had been spending extensive periods in Spain for projects like Land of Women and Searching for Mexico. Having resided there for years now, she didn’t appreciate the politicization of her move.

Since relocating, Eva has remained active with roles in shows such as Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

The actor, who was previously based in Chicago, has announced his family’s move to Madrid, Spain. This decision was influenced by his Spanish wife, Alejandra Silva, and they plan to spend some years there. Their young sons, Alexander and James, are expected to thrive due to their bilingual abilities. The entire family seems to be embracing this new chapter in their lives as they are happier than ever.

From morning to evening, the singer (Christina) resides in Paris, having made the decision to permanently relocate from the United States so her children could attend school there. This change was initiated around three or four years ago when they were constantly commuting between the two countries every six months. The family, which includes daughter Violet and sons Isaiah and Kenna, seems to be thriving in their new environment as they adapt to the French language and culture. Christina enjoys a balanced lifestyle, combining family time during the day with her professional work commitments at night since she works ahead of U.S. time zones.

Lindsay has grown weary of speculation surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. To clarify matters, she reflected on her busy career and wild party scene during the ’00s.

In an interview with Bustle in March 2024, The Parent Trap alum expressed her feelings: “I feel like my work was overshadowed by paparazzi when I was younger, which is frustrating. I wish that aspect of my life hadn’t happened. It seems like it took on a life of its own, so that’s why I decided to step away. Unless there’s no story here, they won’t focus on just my work.”

Lindsay eventually relocated—initially to London and later to Dubai (also launching beach clubs in Greece). However, there was an additional reason she chose to live a life outside the limelight.

The Mean Girls star pondered, “What if I never experience love? What if it never occurs?” She continued, “It was only by giving myself time that the opportunities presented themselves and the ‘yeses’ followed – the things I desired to affirm.”

Indeed, Lindsay eventually found love with Bader Shammas, tying the knot in 2022 and welcoming their son Luai in the following year.

Though they now reside in Dubai, Lindsay hasn’t entirely abandoned her Hollywood roots. She has continued to grace the silver screen in films such as Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

For Josh, the choice to depart from Hollywood emerged following a period of introspection. In an interview with People in July 2024, he expressed that Hollywood wasn’t just a location but a way of life. He felt that if one surrounds oneself with people who are constantly discussing the film industry, it could limit one’s experiences and growth. Instead, Josh yearned for more.

He wanted to be surrounded by people engaged in various activities that would help him shift his focus away from work and encourage him to expand in different directions. In his opinion, this diversity was the essence of life. Consequently, the star of Black Hawk Down, along with his wife Tamsin Egerton and their four children, relocated to England’s Hampshire countryside.

Speaking to The Guardian in July 2024, Josh explained that time seemed to fly by. With four children, there was always much to do. Despite appearing to have fewer events taking place, he emphasized that more of the significant moments were unfolding.

Although Josh has remained active and secured roles in Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

As a die-hard fan, here’s how I might put it: “It seems you may have missed the update if you haven’t been checking your social feed recently! You see, Jesse, the star of ‘A Real Pain’, has shared that he’s spent the last decade finding his comfort zone in Indiana instead of LA. He finds the entertainment industry unstable and prefers a simpler life with his wife, Anna Strout, and son, Banner. Intriguingly, Jesse doesn’t engage much with social media or industry contacts, living a relatively normal life away from the constant scrutiny of Hollywood.

Following stints on shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the year 2000’s “Bring It On”, Eliza announced in September 2024 that she had earned qualifications in psychedelic-assisted therapy and was pursuing advanced education in mental health care.

She shared with Boston Magazine that she found a way to change her life’s path towards healing herself, so she could assist others in their healing process. It would be unfair not to express the transformation, tranquility, and enthusiasm I now feel. This, without a doubt, is where I truly belong, where my true calling lies.

The actress who plays a role in “The Flintstones” shared that she relocated to Ireland with her youngest son Clay in January 2025. She’s currently working on obtaining Irish citizenship since her grandparents hail from there. Although Rosie mentioned recent political changes as the reason for her departure, she didn’t completely dismiss the possibility of returning home one day.

In the TikTok video she shared, she expressed her longing for her other children, friends, and various aspects of life back at home. She’s currently trying to establish a new home in this stunning country, but is looking forward to the time when all citizens can enjoy equal rights in America, at which point they may consider returning.

Actress who plays a role in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has revealed her decision to step away from acting for an undetermined period, following two decades of work within the film industry.

In an Instagram post dated June 2024, Evangeline shared her feelings of profound joy and contentment as she lives according to her vision. She expresses her deep gratitude for her blessings. Though giving up what appears to be the traditional path (wealth and fame) can sometimes feel daunting, embracing one’s true calling (dharma) swaps fear with a sense of fulfillment instead.

However, it’s not definitive that she’s closing the door on this, as she also mentioned, “There’s a possibility I’ll go back to Hollywood someday, but for the moment, this is where I feel at home.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can share that since my stint on Netflix’s 2019 series V-Wars, I’ve chosen to shift gears from screen roles and instead immerse myself deeply into a personal endeavor: combating climate change through soil enhancement.

Four years ago, Ian took a break from acting to focus on raising his kids, developing businesses, and bringing two documentaries – “Kiss the Ground” and its sequel “Common Ground” – to the public. He discussed this in an interview with TopMob News in November 2023. These documentaries emphasize the importance of regenerative farming. Ian is married to Nikki Reed and they have two children together.

In the future, as he gazes ahead, the actor expressed, “I envision myself transforming into a rancher and cultivating renowned product lines, be it my own bourbon or health and wellness business. My dedication to regenerative agriculture and soil management for health will remain at the core of these endeavors, mirroring the lifestyle of my family and me. That’s the path I see myself taking. So when people ask ‘Why do you take such interest?’ – that’s why I care. Because this is who I am, this is where I’m heading.

In a February 2021 episode of her podcast “Empty Inside”, the former iCarly star revealed to guest Anna Faris that she stepped away from acting a few years ago and now concentrates on ventures in scriptwriting and direction, as well as podcast hosting.

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on my journey in acting, I must admit that there are certain roles I’ve taken on earlier in my career that I’m deeply ashamed of. This confession comes from personal introspection detailed in my 2022 memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died.”

In many ways, I harbor resentment towards my acting career. The roles I played left me feeling profoundly unfulfilled, and I often cringe at the cheese factor and embarrassment they evoke. I started acting on shows from the age of 13 to 21, but by 15, I was already embarrassed about it. My peers at that age didn’t share the excitement of being on a Nickelodeon show; instead, it was something I found mortifying.

She hasn’t ruled out a return to acting completely, but she now believes that writing a book has opened up an opportunity for her to approach acting in a new way that doesn’t bring along the heavy baggage she had carried for so long. In conversation with TopMob News in October 2022, she suggested that if she writes something specifically for herself, it might be one of the few ways she could consider trying acting again.

This seemed almost self-evident. If we had the chance to wed Prince Harry, devote our life to charitable endeavors that resonate deeply with us and obtain access to the Queen’s magnificent collection of tiaras, saying goodbye to Hollywood might not be such a hard decision.

After emulating the journey Grace Kelly made from Hollywood to the Monaco Palace, Meghan Markle relinquished her Toronto residence and her popular role in Suits, venturing into a life within The Firm. However, following their departure from their senior roles and move to Montecito, California, she has been gradually re-entering the industry via strategic partnerships such as their multi-year production deal with Netflix.

The Duchess of Sussex unveiled her 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan and her 2025 lifestyle show With Love, Meghan on Netflix. She has also initiated podcasts and her brand As Ever.

Since gracing our screens in “The Mask” back in 1994, I’ve seen this incredible actress star in an impressive 40 films! After wrapping up the filming for “Annie” in 2014, it was high time she took a well-deserved break from the limelight.

She shared with her friend Gwyneth Paltrow that she had made a change in her life’s direction. After pushing herself so much, working tirelessly in her career, making films, she felt it was exhausting. When filming a movie, it seems like a valid reason – they demand your time and energy completely. For months on end, you’re giving 12 hours a day, leaving no room for anything else.

Beyond what she had already delved into, there were numerous other areas that piqued her interest, such as continuing her writing journey (having published The Body Book in 2013 followed by The Longevity Book in 2016) and starting a family with her spouse, Benji Madden. However, she admitted in an interview with InStyle in 2019 that she no longer missed performing. Nevertheless, it seemed that the landscape of wellness could potentially entice her to make a comeback, at least once.

In a conversation with TopMob News, Jamie Foxx expressed his ardent plea, “We humbly asked and showed great admiration, almost like saying, ‘Could you please do it one more time?'” regarding Cameron’s participation in the 2025 Netflix film “Back in Action”. He added, “We truly appreciate her, we’ve longed for her return, and this upcoming project is going to be nothing short of extraordinary.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: After wrapping up my five-year stint on Empire, I made it clear there wouldn’t be a reprise. When Extra asked about my plans before the sixth and final season in 2019, I candidly shared, “I’ve hung up my acting shoes. I’m done with the pretense.

As a lifestyle expert, I would rephrase it like this: After making a comeback for several film projects, the Oscar-nominated actor expressed his intentions to retire from acting during the promotion of his Peacock series “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” in 2022. In an interview with ET, he shared, “I’ve poured out my best acting abilities, and now I find myself relishing in observing the emergence of fresh talent. I don’t wish to mimic my own past performances anymore.”

Regardless of those comments, it’s worth noting that Howard has made additional appearances in various shows and movies. For instance, he starred in the TV series titled “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” and the Netflix film “Shirley”. Moreover, there are several projects awaiting him in the future.

After King Joffrey’s abrupt, purple-hued demise in 2014, the then 21-year-old actor decided to step away from acting. As he told Entertainment Weekly, he had been acting since the age of 8 and simply wasn’t finding it as enjoyable as before.

Jack explained, “Earlier, acting was more of a pastime shared with friends and during summers for fun. But now, as I consider it as a career, the charm seems to fade slightly. It’s no longer just something I enjoy doing; it’s something I might have to do for a living. That alteration in perspective doesn’t mean I dislike it, but it’s not the path I want to pursue.

After a hiatus of six years, he was prepared to take up his role again, and in 2020, he became part of the cast for BBC’s series “Out of Her Mind”. Since then, Jack has also starred in films such as “Rebecca’s Boyfriend” and “In the Land of Saints and Sinners”, along with TV shows like “Safe Harbor” and “The Famous Five”.

In September 2020, during Jennifer Aniston’s participation in a virtual table read for “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”, she married fellow actor Kevin Kline in 1989. They decided to take turns working so that they would never both be employed simultaneously, as explained by Kevin Kline to Playboy, in order to effectively care for their son Owen and daughter Greta (now known professionally as Frankie Cosmos).

In relation to this, he added that whenever it’s Phoebe’s turn to work, she has opted to stay with the kids instead. Despite a brief appearance in Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 independent film titled “The Anniversary Party,” Cates primarily focuses her time on managing her New York City store, Blue Tree.

At the peak of his popularity with films like “Ghostbusters” and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” the ’80s actor, following the death of his wife due to breast cancer in 1991, chose to take a break from filmmaking to devote himself to raising his children Rachel and Mitchell.

Despite not taking on a live-action film role since 1997 and turning down an appearance even in Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters remake, Rick remains a cherished cultural figure, demonstrated by the public outcry over reports of his assault while walking in New York City in 2020. Fortunately, Rick’s fans can look forward to his comeback, sharing the screen with Josh Gad, in the upcoming Disney reboot Shrunk.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, Drew Barrymore suggested she might have moved away from acting. In an interview with Vogue, she explained that many acting roles involve explicit scenes with others, which she is not interested in doing. “Acting often requires dealing with a lot of sexual content, and I don’t want to participate in that,” she said. “It’s a peculiar flame to play with, and our relationship is robust enough to endure it, but if you’re going to walk through fire, there needs to be something extraordinary waiting on the other side.

The finality of her choice was sealed when son Martin joined sister Louisanna in 2014. In a conversation with Us Weekly at a 2016 event, she expressed, “I no longer engage in film-related activities; now I am solely a mom and an outsider.” She elaborated that she assists Kimmel with his business ventures and paints as a hobby on the side. Her primary focus, she stated, is her children, which appears to be the main reason for her stepping away from her career.

She had watched shows such as “Ally McBeal,” “Nip/Tuck,” “Arrested Development,” and lastly, “Scandal.” At this point, the Australian figured she might be prepared to move on.

2018 saw me reaching the age of 45, and I found myself pondering if there was something daringly new I could embark on that would be both tough and distinct. In the spotlight of Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, I shared my thoughts. With a sense of what my acting journey might entail for the upcoming decade or two, I made the bold decision to hang up my acting hat and dive into entrepreneurship instead.

For her consumer-focused art business, General Public, there was still one artwork left to complete, which she was currently working on.

I reached out to Mitch Hurwitz, the mastermind behind “Arrested Development,” expressing that if there’s a fifth season, I wouldn’t participate due to my retirement from acting. He appeared very sympathetic and completely grasped the situation. We had an enjoyable chat, and subsequently, he included me in five episodes of the potential new season.

After bagging three Academy Awards, one might wonder what else there is left to achieve. Following his sixth Oscar nomination for his last film, “Phantom Thread” in 2017, the actor announced that he would no longer be taking on roles. He expressed deep gratitude towards all his collaborators and audience members over the years. This decision was personal, and neither the actor nor his representatives will provide further comments on this matter.

Initially thinking he had moved on, Daniel found himself drawn back into the fold when his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, revealed in October 2024 that they would collaborate on a new project titled Anemone. Not only will Daniel star in the film, but he and his son have co-written it, with Ronan even set to direct.

In 2018, the actress who starred on “Good Luck Charlie” decided to move away from the limelight and focused instead on her education. She completed a master’s degree at MIT and later earned a doctorate from the same institution. Additionally, she enrolled in Harvard Law School.

Furthermore, Bridgit not only started her venture, Northwood Space, but also assumed the role of CEO in February 2023. This innovative company is focused on developing ground satellite stations for efficient data exchange with space.
