Gillian Anderson Open to X-Files Reboot with Ryan Coogler

Gillian Anderson has been frequently discussing Ryan Coogler’s proposed remake of The X-Files with him recently. In a recent interview on the British talk show “This Morning,” she expressed her continued backing for Coogler’s vision. However, when it comes to whether she will actually appear in the show, that remains uncertain. Anderson told ITV that she is open to being part of the reboot, but there are elements beyond her control that could influence this decision. It’s not clear if these factors involve salary negotiations, licensing issues, or just the creative direction of the new series.

As a movie critic, I had the opportunity to converse with him recently, and in that conversation, I expressed my belief that he would be the ideal candidate for a project, should it ever come to fruition. I extended my well-wishes and encouraged him to call me if the timing and opportunity aligned perfectly. If the phone rings one day with a suitable offer, and it feels like the right moment, then maybe we’ll work together in the future.

Back in early April, Anderson sparked discussions about the return of The X-Files on American television when she appeared as a guest on The Today Show. She hinted that the project had been on director Ryan Coogler’s agenda and expressed her strong backing for it. “I can’t imagine a better way for a reboot to take place,” Anderson stated, “I think he’s quite brilliant.” There is a possibility that this may happen. Whether I will be part of it is another question, but given his talents… However, I’m not shutting the door entirely, as I find him very interesting, and if he were in charge, I believe it would be executed superbly, and I might make a brief appearance.

He expressed his long-standing enthusiasm and eagerness to return to the topic, stating, “For quite some time now, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this, and I can hardly wait!” Regarding certain installments, if we perform well, they could prove genuinely terrifying.

Back in the ’90s, I was glued to my TV screen as The X-Files graced our small screens from 1993 till 2002. It made a brief comeback from 2016 to 2018 too. In this thrilling series, I found myself rooting for Agent Dana Scully, portrayed by Anderson, who was always questioning the paranormal, and Agent Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, who had a firm belief in UFOs and other extraordinary phenomena. Together, they leveraged FBI resources to either confirm or debunk the supernatural explanations behind baffling, unsolved mysteries. More often than not, they’d find themselves entangled in tales that were far from what they initially anticipated.

Currently, you can stream “The X-Files” again on Hulu if you’re interested in revisiting the classic show. As of now, Ryan Coogler’s reboot hasn’t received an official green light, so we don’t know exactly when we’ll be able to watch it ourselves.
