SK8 the Infinity’s New Anime Has Good News for English Dub Fans

At long last, Crunchyroll has unveiled the dubbed version for the OVA of one of its most buzzed-about anime series from the 2020s – SK8 the Infinity. This original anime television series is a creation of the renowned Japanese animation studio Bones, under the guidance of director Hiroko Utsumi. Bones, known for its critically acclaimed productions such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Eureka Seven, Mob Psycho 100, and My Hero Academia, has once again delivered a captivating series. In SK8 the Infinity, we follow a band of teenage skaters who participate in clandestine races. The anime debuted in 2021, quickly becoming one of the season’s most discussed shows. A four-part OVA titled SK8 the Infinity Extra Part was screened for a limited time in Japan on January 24th.

The special four-episode series of SK8 the Infinity Extra Part, originally released in Japanese home media on March 19th, was made accessible on Crunchyroll’s streaming service in March as well, offering viewers the original Japanese language version. However, unlike the initial anime series of SK8 the Infinity which had a same-day English dub, Crunchyroll didn’t provide an English dub for the OVA in March. Luckily, a month later, they released an English version of the OVA on their platform following the launch of the subtitle version.

What is SK8 the Infinity Extra Part About?

The additional installment of “SK8 the Infinity” titled “Extra Part” has been divided into four distinct segments, or episodes. These are named “The Rain and a Cat,” “Soda Ice Cream from the Convenience Store,” “Taking Things Seriously” and “Morning Habits,” with an additional episode entitled “Hiromi, Give Your Best.” While the original series is a competitive sports program, this OVA focuses more on everyday life, offering glimpses into the characters’ ordinary experiences.

1. “Trapped Indoors by the Rain and a Cat”: The characters find themselves confined indoors due to a storm, passing time by playing Karuta, a traditional Japanese card game.

2. “Deepening Relationships – Sakurayashiki and Nanjo”: This narrative delves into the intricate relationship between Sakurayashiki and Nanjo, tracing their history back to their high school years and the development of their intense rivalry.

3. “Ainosuke and Kikuchi’s Daily Lives – Morning Routine”: The story revolves around the ordinary lives of Ainosuke and Kikuchi as they navigate through each morning together.

4. “Hiromi, Strive for Greatness as Your Shadow Self”: This production follows Hiromi as he embodies his Shadow persona, an anti-hero and skilled skater, pushing himself to achieve greatness.

The Original English Cast Returns for SK8 the Infinity Extra Part

Initially, the dub for “SK8 the Infinity” was created by Funimation. Later on, Funimation merged with Sony’s Crunchyroll brand and is no longer a separate entity. However, Crunchyroll continues to utilize the same technical team, directors, and voice actors that were previously employed by Funimation. The original “SK8 the Infinity” dub featured Matt Shipman and Howard Wang in the main roles, as Reki Kyan and Langa Hasegawa respectively. These two actors will reprise their roles for “SK8 the Infinity Extra Part”, marking a return to their characters after four years.

Apart from the “Additional Chapter” of SK8 the Infinity, it’s been confirmed that a second season is being made. However, no specific release date has been provided for SK8 the Infinity Season Two. The show also has two spin-off manga versions, one of which is an adaptation of the anime series itself.
