Will ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ & ‘International’ End with a Epic Crossover?

The two offshoots within the FBI series might conclude just as they started, but it can’t be certain that they will. All three shows in the FBI universe share characters Jubal and Isobel, who also appear on different shows in the franchise when required, showing the interconnected nature of each show within the franchise, despite their separate storylines in season 7 of the original series.

Sadly, it appears that both “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted” have been axed by CBS in 2025. Despite their impressive ratings, the network opted not to renew them due to a mix of factors, leading to their final episodes airing in May 2025. The forthcoming conclusions of these spinoffs have sparked much discussion, with many debating what kind of ending would be most fitting.

How The Spinoffs Were Connected To FBI At The Beginning

They Began As Crossovers Or Backdoor Pilots

Each of these FBI spin-offs started as offshoots from the original series right from the start. When FBI: Most Wanted debuted, it was presented within an episode of FBI, acting as a backdoor pilot. In this episode, an ICE agent murdered his family and staged his own death, causing the New York Field Office to summon the Fugitive Task Force. Launching the new show using FBI was more effective than a standalone pilot because it seamlessly combined old and new characters.

In similar fashion, the pilot episode for FBI: International served as the third installment of a crossover event that involved both existing FBI series. Given that there were already two established shows within the franchise, it made sense to introduce the new spinoff through this method rather than a backdoor pilot. Conversely, when FBI: Most Wanted initially premiered, only one other FBI show was available, which is why they opted for a backdoor pilot instead.

Why A Crossover With FBI Would Be The Best Ending For Most Wanted And International

It Would Allow All Three Units To Work Together For The Last Time

As a fervent supporter, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for the idea of a crossover event involving the FBI, tying up the runs of all three spinoffs. This grand finale would echo the initial introduction of these teams, and most importantly, it would provide an opportunity for all three FBI units to collaborate one last time. Such an ending would underscore the significance of each team within the franchise, offering a fitting farewell that will linger in our memories. Moreover, this three-hour extravaganza would undoubtedly captivate audiences, sparking conversations long after the final credits have rolled.

As a seasoned movie critic, I’d put it this way:

“In a fitting finale for the departing FBI spinoffs, each squad would band together to dismantle a formidable menace, underscoring the invaluable nature of their distinct talents. Yet, as these shows bid adieu, they must also tie up loose ends regarding the fate of each character and address queries about whether their units will persist post-series. This grand farewell could be orchestrated as a globe-trotting escapade that enlists all three teams. For instance, a side plot could see Vo’s well-earned promotion unfold within the FBI: International segment of our interconnected case.

Can The FBI Franchise Still Stage A Crossover Event This Late?

If One Hasn’t Filmed, It May Be Too Late

Regrettably, it seems the writers from the FBI aren’t intending to merge the series for their finales, which means our idea might not come to fruition. The finales are slated for May 20, 2025, and with just three weeks remaining, they’ve probably been filmed already, or are in the process of being wrapped up within the next week or so. Essentially, the plot has already been decided, so unless it involves a crossover, the conclusion for the two FBI spinoffs won’t feature one.

It’s unfortunate that spinoff series from the FBI might not have their ideal conclusion. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of characters from other shows within the franchise making an appearance in the final episodes. Characters like Jubal and Isobel frequently appear on different shows, so a brief guest spot in the finales is possible. Furthermore, since Nina is married to Scola, there could be small crossover scenes featuring these characters. Although cameos aren’t as extensive as full-fledged crossovers, they would serve to connect each show within the franchise before it concludes permanently.
