Microsoft Was Both Xbox and PlayStation’s Top Q3 FY2025 Publisher by Pre-Orders and Pre-Installs

Despite a steady decrease in market share of its own hardware over the past few years, Microsoft has experienced significant growth across various platforms. The company has successfully shifted its focus to multiplatform publishing, launching several key Xbox games on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch within the last year (with particularly notable releases on PlayStation). This strategic move is now paying off for them.

In a recent quarterly financial meeting, it was disclosed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (as shared on Twitter by Tom Warren) that for Q3 of fiscal year 2024-25, Xbox emerged as the leading publisher in terms of pre-orders and pre-installations, not just on the Xbox Store but also the PlayStation Store. Given their lineup of highly anticipated titles such as “Age of Mythology: Retold,” “Forza Horizon 5,” and “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” scheduled for release in early 2025 on PS5, this achievement doesn’t come as much of a shock.

During this period, PC Game Pass recorded a 45% increase in annual revenue compared to last year, and cloud gaming clocked an impressive 150 million hours played collectively by its users – a new record. Notably, Microsoft reported over 500 million monthly active users for all their first-party titles across platforms like PlayStation, Switch, mobile, Xbox, and PC in the recent quarter.
