PS1 Game Returning on PS4 and PS5 With New Content

Originally released in arcades in 1993, both in Japan and the U.S., this iconic PS1 game is making a comeback on both PS4 and PS5. It first appeared on the PS1 in Japan in 1994, and then in the U.S. and Europe in 1995. While some may categorize it as an arcade game or a PS1 exclusive, its initial release date varies among 1993, 1994, and 1995 depending on the region.

To clarify, the game under discussion is Namco’s well-known title Ridge Racer. If you haven’t guessed it yet, that’s the one! You might recall that Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer was scheduled for release on June 5th exclusively through the Nintendo Switch. Now, Hamster Corporation, both the publisher and developer of this game, has revealed that the PS1 version of the classic will also be available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users on the same day as the Nintendo Switch release.

Previously mentioned, this fresh edition deviates from being a remaster or re-creation; instead, it’s an upgraded and modernized version of the ’90s hit. This revamp introduces a “Time Attack Mode,” along with other improvements such as: a rewind option, multiple save points rather than the single one in the original, and a quick load feature. Furthermore, VRR technology has been incorporated to emulate the authentic arcade sensation of the game.

The exact price for the re-release on the PlayStation Store isn’t clear yet, however, Arcade Archives typically come at affordable prices. We do have a fresh trailer available, and you can watch it here, compliments of the official PlayStation YouTube channel.
