NVIDIA GeForce “Game Ready” graphics driver update fixes bugs from a previous release — Flickering screens patched

Yesterday saw the release of a new version, 576.28 25.4.1, of NVIDIA’s “Game Ready” driver specifically designed for GeForce desktop and laptop graphics cards. This updated driver can be downloaded directly from the official NVIDIA website.

The latest model driver is compatible with the recently launched RTX 50 Series Graphics Processing Units. These GPUs come with a complimentary version of DOOM: The Dark Ages, and they have been available since the inception of even the earliest GTX cards from prehistoric times.

Instead of showcasing significant improvements in performance with its DLSS 4 Transformer scaling model, NVIDIA is primarily addressing issues from the previous driver, a process that continues as it tackles recurring problems affecting the RTX 50 Series GPUs and their occasional malfunctions.

It’s important to note that while there are game-specific improvements being made, titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Red Dead Redemption 2 have received bug fixes. Unfortunately, the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered hasn’t seen any fixes yet, as it’s currently under Bethesda and Virtuos’ purview to enhance its performance.

Noteworthy improvements include addressing issues with NVIDIA GPUs running slower than anticipated in idle mode, and resolving a set of display problems that resulted in screen flickering at high refresh rates and complete blackouts during HDR usage when the monitor is connected via DisplayPort 2.1.

Is it safe to update your NVIDIA drivers?

I strongly recommend keeping up-to-date with firmware updates, but when it comes to graphics drivers, I must confess I lean towards pessimism. Typically, I choose not to update them unless there’s a clear issue; however, this approach can potentially lead to problems.

It’s worth mentioning that the series of problematic NVIDIA GPU drivers, which I must admit have caused some concerns, almost seems to validate my skepticism. However, the forthcoming list of fixes appears to signal a promising future for GeForce graphics.

If you’ve encountered any of the issues mentioned next, especially the issue with the intermittent monitor, then it’s highly recommended that you consider an upgrade. Furthermore, you can remove an NVIDIA graphics driver and revert to a prior version if necessary. I’ve done this many times before, and my RTX 4090 system is still functioning smoothly.
