Death of Snow White Trailer Has Bloodthirsty Dwarfs, Is Definitely Not Disney

An upcoming film titled “The Death of Snow White” deviates significantly from Disney’s usual take on Snow White, promising a chilling, sinister adaptation instead. The timeless tale of Snow White, her wicked stepmother, and the seven dwarfs continues to captivate audiences, making it ripe for fresh interpretations. Recently, Disney released a live-action Snow White film featuring Rachel Zegler in the lead role, which didn’t fare well at the box office. However, this new horror movie is poised to break that trend by portraying the dwarfs as bloodthirsty master assassins.

The Horror Collective unveiled a fresh trailer for the intriguing reimagining of The Death of Snow White. The narrative unfolds as Snow White expresses, “Every time I return, I feel resurrected.” Dancing with her Prince Charming amidst a haunting woodland, we’re reminded that “You’ve Read the Tale… But Not in This Form.” The wicked stepmother presents Snow White an ominous red apple, and we flashback to Snow White’s mother on her dying bed, begging for her child’s salvation. Snow White treads cautiously through a fortress under siege while adorned in a blood-streaked white gown.

Out of nowhere, a little man emerges from the haze, bearing a sword across his back. Troops advance through the woods, and the wicked stepmother mutters that the dwarfs are shielding Snow White. “The dwarfs?” she exclaims. “Have they all lost their minds?” The soldier responds, “Indeed, it seems as if they have.” Subsequently, we witness numerous instances of the dwarfs skillfully fending off adversaries, demonstrating that they are more than capable at their smaller stature.

In my opinion, I found myself quite intrigued yet somewhat disheartened by the response to Disney’s Snow White. Everywhere I looked online, there seemed to be a new debate brewing – from misunderstandings about the dwarves being portrayed as a band of Merry Men-like rebels in a 2023 set photo, to controversy surrounding the casting choice of a Latina actress for Snow White. It was almost as if the movie itself wasn’t the main focus, but rather the discussions that surrounded it. The general sentiment among critics was that despite all the uproar, Snow White remained relatively inoffensive.

In a 2.5-star review, ComicBook critic Evan Valentine expresses that Snow White’s story in the live-action movie remains faithful to its classic roots, yet this loyalty has its pros and cons for Zegler’s adaptation. The plot lacks depth overall, and although some alterations are made to the storyline’s progression during the adaptation, these changes fail to significantly enhance the on-screen experience. The additional elements appear more as decorative touches rather than substantial improvements, particularly in the film’s climax, which aims to redefine White’s journey but fails to deliver a convincing new interpretation of her expedition’s purpose.

The lackluster performance of Snow White contributed to Disney temporarily halting production on the live-action adaptation of Tangled. Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) was originally tapped to direct the live-action version of Tangled, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder, Do Revenge) penning the script. Although it’s not explicitly mentioned that the halt in production for Tangled is directly due to the poor performance of Snow White, it’s reasonable to infer a connection between the two projects. Snow White made $69 million domestically and $145 million worldwide against a budget of $270 million.

In the haunting tale “The Death of Snow White,” our beloved heroine finds herself hunted for her eternal youth by her wicked stepmother. Fearing for her life, she ventures into a dark forest where she encounters seven gruff dwarfs, known for their ruthless nature and skill in lethal combat. The story tests Snow White’s resilience against the backdrop of this grim fairy tale. This horror film, filled with suspense, is the creation of director, writer, and producer Jason Brooks.

The Demise of Snow White” features performances by Sanae Loutsis, Chelsea Edmundson, Tristan Nokes, Meredith Binder, Risa Mei, and Ali Chapman. This film will premiere in cinemas starting May 2nd.
