While I understand everyone has their own pace when it comes to financial decisions, I would highly suggest that if securing a PlayStation 5 is a priority for you, it might be beneficial to purchase one as soon as possible.
For those of you who are current owners, considering an upgrade to the PS5 Pro, I strongly advise you to go ahead and get it soon.
Previously, we’ve faced substantial criticism over Nintendo’s pricing approach for the Switch 2, yet they weren’t left to shoulder the public outrage on their own for long. This week, Microsoft stepped forward with an announcement that they will be raising prices across nearly all their products, including their struggling hardware range which has been consistently showing declines in sales year after year.
As of now, the 2TB Galaxy Black Xbox Series X is priced $30 higher compared to the more potent PS5 Pro. Conversely, the 1TB Digital Edition Xbox Series S is available for $20 less than a standard PS5 Digital Edition.
These are extraordinary, unprecedented numbers – but honestly, I don’t think Sony is far behind.
The company responsible for the platform has bumped up prices by two instances throughout Europe, while implementing drastic changes in Japan. The exception to these alterations is the United States. Given Microsoft’s ongoing competition in this region, it seems strategic to leave the U.S. market untouched.
Since its competitor has surrendered and the potential for tariffs is significant, it seems unavoidable that prices will rise throughout all of Sony’s product range. Given this situation, I’d highly recommend purchasing a PS5 as soon as possible.
It’s worth noting that the foresight of the Japanese giant has offered some protection against the immediate chaos triggered by the U.S. government’s actions. Specifically, it expanded its supply chain and accumulated systems in advance to prevent any potential penalties or costs.
However, when it runs out of its current stock, unless there are any significant political shifts, it will encounter the same challenges as other manufacturers now. Additionally, let’s not forget about the broader economic troubles that are developing as well.
I’ve typically advocated for purchasing gaming consoles towards the later stages of their lifecycle when the hardware becomes more budget-friendly and the software selection is extensive. However, if you delay your purchase of a PS5 much longer, I believe you won’t find a cheaper console – its price trend is clearly on an upward trajectory.
Given the increasing likelihood that many games will cost around $80, it’s not hard to see why some people might lose interest in gaming altogether. It seems as though every year, this pastime becomes less appealing due to rising costs associated with it.
If you’re still keen on getting a PS5 or perhaps even thinking about upgrading to the PS5 Pro, I strongly recommend making that move right away.
Sony’s gaming console appears quite pricey at the moment, but when considering the competition, it seems almost affordable. However, this advantageous pricing may not last forever.
