Kelsey Grammar is still processing his sister Karen Grammar’s gruesome death 50 years later.

On July 8, 1975, the actor who would later become famous for playing Frasier, at the age of 20, received tragic news when he opened his door to learn that his 18-year-old sister had been brutally raped and killed a week earlier in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“Overwhelming sorrow had held me captive for far too long, preventing any glimmers of joy from reaching me,” I confided in an interview with People, published on May 2. Yet, the writing of my book, “Karen: A Brother Remembers,” has been my key to unlocking a newfound sense of peace and happiness.

In the upcoming book, published on May 6, the 70-year-old author shares his account of his sister’s tragic last moments. This was after spree killer Freddie Glenn, who is now serving a life sentence for murdering Karen and two others, along with two of his associates, raped the college student in turns before leading her to an alley and repeatedly stabbing her 42 times, almost decapitating her. Notably, Michael Corbett, another accomplice sentenced to life imprisonment for these murders, passed away in 2019.

In Kelsey’s writing from his book excerpt, published in People, he expresses that the individual who discovered Karen at his door was somewhat like a ‘good Samaritan’, but sadly, this person did not offer assistance and instead contacted the police after leaving Karen’s lifeless body on the steps. Her eyes were fixed on the sky, her legs still on the stairs, her head on the ground, and one hand clenched with a single finger pointing upward – implying direction or perhaps symbolizing something unseen.

After being stabbed, as stated in a police report, Karen frantically knocked on a door at a nearby trailer in search of aid. Unfortunately, after doing so, she lost her balance and fell backwards. Subsequently, she crawled approximately 400 feet from the location of the stabbing, leaving traces of the incident behind in the form of bloody fingerprints and knee marks.

In simpler terms, “The coroner pointed out that through a large wound on Karen’s neck, he could clearly see deep into her lung,” Kelsey explained. “I was correct in stating that it was almost like he had beheaded her. Freddie Glenn inflicted horrific damage on my sister’s body, creating multiple wounds, some of which were defensive marks on her hands.

Upon discovering that those seemingly kind gestures from a stranger were merely an illusion, Kelsey decided to share the tale of his bohemian and affectionate sister, who held such a dear place in his heart.

The Cheers alum expressed that he aimed to bring her to life and usher her into existence. Speaking to People, he stated, “We were Kelsey and Karen, two siblings.
