There’s been plenty of conversation about the forthcoming Harry Potter series. Subscribers of Max will enjoy an extended, in-depth adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, but fans have been vocal lately about Rowling and the cast, including Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and others. Even the new cast members’ names that have been announced have sparked discussion. Despite many original cast members showing no interest in reprising their roles for the new series, there’s one notable exception: Tom Felton.

How Most Cast Members Feel About Returning For HBO Max’s Harry Potter Series

Some fans might hope to see certain original actors reprise their roles in a mature Hogwarts setting; however, many of these cast members have indicated they’re not interested in returning. When questioned, Daniel Radcliffe hinted at the idea being more theoretical than likely, while Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) found the suggestion puzzling. Matthew Lewis, too, seemed uncertain about a comeback.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve always held onto the hope that Rupert Grint, who played my favorite character Ron Weasley in Harry Potter, might reprise his role someday. However, it seems that the upcoming HBO Max series isn’t the venue for such a return – at least not according to what he’s shared so far.

It appears that certain actors, including David Tennant, have shown hesitance towards rejoining the series due to J.K. Rowling’s executive producer position. Despite his minor roles in the films, this seems to be a factor. In simpler terms, it looks like some of the cast members might not want to return because of her involvement in the production.

It’s important to mention that while the series offers a continuation, it’s drawing heavily on elements previously shown on the big screen during the early to mid 2000s. This means that unlike a stage production like “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” where actors can reprise their roles as grown-up characters, those in this series are playing new characters rather than reprising their old ones (with the exception of Daniel Radcliffe who might still be involved).

Having said this, OG cast members could pop in for new roles.

Tom Felton Wants To ‘Sneak In’ To The New Harry Potter Series

As a devoted fan of the Wizarding World myself, I can confirm that Tom Felton hasn’t shown any signs of hesitation about revisiting this enchanting universe. He often engages with Harry Potter fans and has expressed in the past his desire to rejoin the magical fold in some form. Even before Max hinted at a streaming series, he left open the possibility for more adventures. So, while we don’t have a definitive answer yet, I remain optimistic that Tom Felton might just find his way back to Hogwarts.

During the job interviews for the upcoming Chicago-based franchise project, he showed enthusiasm about the new TV series and already had ideas for creating an exceptional viewer experience, as reported by Daily Mail.

I’m entirely on board with that idea! There’s no better opportunity than joining the Wizarding World, and I’ll do my best to slip in as an unnoticed extra.

In a shift from having a significant part in the upcoming fantasy drama, Felton seems content with participating in some form, and it appears that he aims to subtly appear, perhaps as an Easter egg-like character hidden within the scene’s background. This opportunity may not manifest until much later, as the show is yet to finalize casting and isn’t expected to air until 2026 at the earliest. Nevertheless, if Felton wishes to make a cameo as an extra actor, it seems plausible.
