One of the most enigmatic puzzles in the world of “One Piece” is The Void Century. This mystery is deeply intertwined with the series’ background and holds the solution to many other unsolved questions. For more than two decades, “One Piece” has been tantalizing its fans with this riddle, yet despite some new insights like Vegapunk’s post-death message during the Egghead Arc or Elbaf’s ancient Harley texts and murals, we are still far from revealing the truth.
The Egghead Arc provided a glimmer of optimism regarding the mystery of the Void Century, as it was disclosed that Ohara’s research on poneglyphs was securely stored in Elbaf. However, recent developments in One Piece suggest that this last vital clue to the Void Century may be at risk. In Chapter 1147 of One Piece, St. Sommers unveils the Holy Knights’ true motive behind capturing the Giants’ children and warns them that he will eliminate the children one by one unless the Giants demolish their schools and libraries and swear loyalty to the World Government. This destructive act would encompass the Owl Library, which holds the books that Saul brought back from Ohara. If the Holy Knights’ plan comes to fruition, it could potentially mean that Ohara’s research is lost forever, thereby depriving fans of their best opportunity to uncover more secrets about the Void Century through Robin.
One Piece Teases Ohara’s Research on the Void Century Could Be Destroyed
The intriguing gap in the recorded history of One Piece’s Blue Planet was subtly hinted at during the Jaya Arc, specifically in Chapter 218. In a flashback scene from Alabasta, Robin shared with King Cobra that the poneglyphs suggested a hidden “true history.” This chapter came out in February 2002, but it wasn’t until Chapter 395, released in January 2006, that the notion of the Void Century was fully introduced through Professor Clover. Despite the passage of twenty years, fans are still far from uncovering the actual events that occurred 900 years ago.
Up until recently, the details disclosed during the Ohara flashback were all fans knew about the Void Century, with the Egghead Arc providing some additional background through Vegapunk. However, it’s worth noting that Vegapunk’s information was primarily derived from Ohara’s research, making Ohara’s findings the most comprehensive resource for Robin and fans to delve deeper into the Void Century. This is because discovering more poneglyphs would have taken a considerable amount of time. The surprising revelation that Ohara’s research had managed to survive the Buster Call and was being safeguarded on Elbaf was a significant development, particularly since the Straw Hats were already headed towards Elbaf at the time.
So far, Robin has been in the Owl Library on Elbaf but hasn’t had enough time to thoroughly examine all of Ohara’s research findings. Given the emphasis on reintroducing Ohara’s work into the story, it seems unlikely that One Piece would discard it so casually without using it for a major revelation. However, with the current situation on Elbaf being rather dire against the Holy Knights, it appears the main mystery of One Piece might remain unsolved for a while longer.
One Piece Just Gave Robin the Perfect Motive to Fight
In essence, threatening Ohara’s research provided Robin with an unbeatable motivation to confront the Holy Knights. The findings of Ohara symbolize not just the truth Robin has been pursuing throughout her life but also the sacrifices made by her people, who preserved the records of their research despite risking their own lives. If the Wano Arc and Robin’s battle against Black Maria have demonstrated anything, it’s that the Straw Hats’ archaeologist is more than capable in a fight, and with something this significant to protect, Robin will not hold back on her attacks.
This situation offers Robin a chance, which she couldn’t seize as a child during the initial calamity for Ohara, to stand up for its defense. Guarding Ohara’s research would complete her character arc and satisfy fans eager to witness Robin taking action instead of hiding with Saul. The forthcoming conflicts in One Piece, however, are critical, as they will determine if the enigma surrounding the Void Century will be unveiled anytime soon.
