In a recent conversation, I found myself discussing my role as Crocodile in One Piece with its creator, Eiichiro Oda. There were certain aspects about the character that hadn’t been clarified in either the manga or the anime. I was fortunate enough to share my thoughts on the origin of his scar, how he lost his limb and acquired the hook replacement, his new career as a casino owner and mob boss instead of a pirate. As an actor, it’s essential for me to bring depth and authenticity to this three-dimensional character, given these details have their own backstories. The weight of this responsibility is palpable, knowing that the character carries a history that resonates with fans worldwide. At the same time, I aim to honor the existing fan base and the 1300+ episodes of the beloved series. Essentially, I’m paying tribute to them through my performance as well. It’s been an exciting journey finding the right balance.

In the second season of the live-action adaptation of “One Piece,” there will be a number of new cast members joining Alexander Manganiello.
