Rookie’s Seth Cliffhanger: Fans DEMAND More!

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Rookie season 7, episode 16

This newcomer, often referred to as The Rookie, has faced some hurdles when it comes to integrating fresh recruits onto the team. However, this season introduced an unprecedented level of peril with the return of rookie Seth Ridley in the seventeenth episode of season 7. Known for his compulsion to lie and manipulate others, Seth has a knack for finding ways to elicit sympathy. This unique type of rookie sparked a possible narrative we haven’t witnessed before – a washout from the FTO program and a new adversary for Lucy. Regrettably, Seth’s storyline did not develop in that direction.

In the latest episode of The Rookie’s seventh season, titled “The Return,” it was anticipated that Seth’s reentry into the FTO program would introduce either a new antagonist or initiate his path to redemption. However, what we got was an incredibly swift and underwhelming redemption arc. This redemption was so unsatisfying, in fact, that I am convinced this is not the last we’ll see of Seth. Given the number of people he deceived with his lies, his persistent dishonesty cannot simply be forgiven or forgotten. He has a tremendous amount of work ahead to regain any semblance of trust from his fellow police officers; one episode and a heroic act are far from enough.

Seth’s Incompetence Almost Cost Tim And Lucy Their Lives In The Rookie

In Order To Move On, This Will Need To Come To Light

As the flames of the L.A. wildfires roared, I found myself in a crucial role, disseminating information to fellow officers to ensure everyone’s safety. In the heat of the moment, with information overload, vital details didn’t reach The Rookie‘s Lucy and Tim in time, placing them in danger and brushing death close by. When I came to my senses, I not only concealed this information but also shifted the blame onto an innocent party, claiming they were the ones at fault and deserved punishment. A blunder of such magnitude can’t simply be swept under the rug and ignored. If I genuinely seek redemption, it’s something I must acknowledge and take responsibility for.

It’s not easy for Lucy to overlook or forget the harm Seth caused during his time at the LAPD, given how significantly he hurt her. His deceit led her into offering him sympathy on multiple occasions, even putting her life in jeopardy. The damage done by his lies eroded any trust she had in him completely. Despite her efforts to distance herself from him, he continued to resurface and add more turmoil to her life. In short, Lucy finds it difficult to forgive Seth easily, and for her own healing, he needs to genuinely make amends and demonstrate his transformation.

Seth Is On His Way To Redemption In The Rookie – But It’s Not Enough

His Sacrifice For Nolan Is Only The Beginning

As a passionate cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, I, or rather Seth, saved Christopher Nolan from peril, yet the price was my own leg and a life on disability. This selfless act, though, was not forgotten by Nolan, who felt a sense of forgiveness stir within him for me. During one of his hospital visits, I, or rather Seth, confessed to Nolan that I yearned for redemption but had no idea how to bring about change. But it wasn’t just Nolan that I came clean with; I also admitted my deceit to Tamara, a difficult step indeed. This admission, however, led to her departure from my side, something I knew could happen once the truth was spoken. Now at rock bottom, I have nothing left to lose before I can start anew and rebuild both myself and my life.

Seth’s spontaneous, brave deed doesn’t mark the conclusion of his redemption journey; instead, it signifies the beginning, as there is still much left for him to do to make amends for his past. Although The Rookie season 7 isn’t wrapping up just yet, it seems improbable that Seth will reappear significantly this season. Consequently, he must return in season 8 to finish his storyline or else his presence throughout season 7 might seem pointless.
