The Equalizer’s CBS Run Is Over, But The Showrunner Revealed Season 6 Plans For Queen Latifah’s Robyn If The Show Ever Were To Continue

Be warned, spoilers for the final episode of “The Equalizer” series lie ahead. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch up by streaming the CBS drama on Paramount+.

This year, CBS has been particularly ruthless in terminating shows. Among the programs they’ve cut, “The Equalizer” was the latest addition to the list, wrapping up in 2025 as part of their TV schedule after five seasons. Despite expectations that it would return for a sixth season, plans were already underway when the crime drama starring Queen Latifah concluded on Sunday. The showrunner even shared some insights into what might have transpired had the series continued past Season 5.

In the final episode of the series, Robyn McCall, played by Latifah, and Tory Kittles’ character Dante become engaged. This follows an unfortunate incident where Dante was shot during their romantic trip, orchestrated by Juan Javier Cardenas’ Salazar. While viewers are likely thrilled to know that the couple’s future is now certain, they may also feel a sense of disappointment as they won’t get to witness their wedding. However, there was a possibility for it to take place.

Before its termination, showrunner Joe Wilson expressed his desire for the main characters to get married in Season 6, as revealed during an interview with TV Insider.

If we manage to achieve it, it means wedding celebrations are on the horizon! It’s going to be quite an event, even more exciting than the proposal itself. The story of how we use this opportunity will be remarkable. Moreover, it sheds light on the evolution of their relationship within a family-owned business, as hinted in this particular episode. So, those are the key aspects we’ll be highlighting.

It’s unfortunate not to witness the wedding, knowing it won’t take place on-screen for now. On one hand, avoiding the chaos might be beneficial, given the suggestion of a wilder wedding than the proposal. However, Robyn and Dante deserve a tranquil wedding, so it remains sad that this event will remain unseen on our screens.

Instead of just focusing on the wedding, Season 6 of Wilson’s show also promised some unexpected twists. Wilson hinted that despite the unpredictability of Delilah leaving for college, it was likely that most of the cast from The Equalizer would return in some capacity, preserving the cherished family atmosphere that viewers have come to appreciate.

To ensure the heart of our series remains intact, we’ll need to carefully develop each scene to emphasize the unique family dynamic among three generations of black women. While characters may shift positions, technology and travel will help maintain their connections. The essence of our show lies in these strong bonds and mutual support across generations, a theme that we’re committed to preserving. We might even enhance this focus slightly, so it remains evident, even if not present in every episode.

It’s unclear if “The Equalizer” will be offered elsewhere for broadcast, given that there seems to be more tales left untold. Queen Latifah has addressed the show’s cancellation, promising fans that she will continue to take action and kick butt in the future. While it’s possible she may no longer portray Robyn McCall, she is still ready to jump into action. However, this doesn’t make the cancellation any less difficult.

It’s always disappointing when a series ends prematurely, especially when there were already ideas for future seasons. Unfortunately, not even ‘Tracker’ could prevent this from happening. This setback only fuels my desire for a sixth season, given the potential developments and the realization that it will never come to pass. Yet, with Robyn and Dante finding their happy ending, it’s still something to be grateful for.
