Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Skip Met Gala Amid Legal Battle

The Met Gala 2025 red carpet ends without one notable couple.

On May 5th, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds chose to avoid public attention and not attend the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, as they are currently engaged in a legal dispute with Justin Baldoni, who worked with Lively on her film “It Ends With Us.” (For those interested in seeing which stars graced the 2025 Met Gala, click here.)

It appears that Ryan, 48, and Blake, 37, didn’t attend the high-end fashion event this year, even though their children – James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, 2 – were listed among them. The reason for their absence remains unclear, as Ryan and Blake have not disclosed why they chose to skip the event, which was co-chaired by A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour this year.

On another note, it’s not a new occurrence that they both failed to attend the charity fundraiser. In fact, Ryan and Blake, who has graced the Met Gala red carpet a total of 10 times since her debut in 2008, were also absent from last year’s event with a theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”.

Meanwhile, although the actress from “A Simple Favor” and the Marvel actor didn’t walk the red carpet, this year’s Met Gala was a glittering event filled with stars like Zendaya, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner who were snapped for photos on the museum steps.

Apart from that, it’s worth noting that Blake hasn’t entirely avoided public attention since her legal dispute with Justin commenced in December. This was when she initiated a lawsuit against him, claiming sexual harassment and retaliation. However, he refuted these allegations and counter-suited Blake for defamation, demanding $400 million; allegations that Blake also denies.

Last month, Blake attended the TIME100 Gala in New York City with Ryan, and she was recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Individuals for the year 2025.

In her acceptance speech, the actress expressed the sense of duty she feels, being a woman with a significant influence.

She clarified, as evidenced by the footage aired by Variety during the April 24 event, “The way we employ something is crucial. It’s important to consider who and what we advocate for, and what we choose not to speak up about, what we profit from versus what we truly embody, holds significance.

Blake mentioned, “I have a lot I’d like to share about the past two years of my life, but this isn’t the right place for it tonight.
