Ghost of Tsushima was, in some ways, a surprise success.
In 2020, amidst the pandemic, a game was introduced, and although it was anticipated to be successful, its popularity surpassed predictions by selling over 13 million copies as revealed in 2024. What’s even more remarkable is that the game sold more than a million units just within Japan.
The upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yotei, is set for release on October 2nd. There’s anticipation that it will either match or surpass the greatness of its predecessor, and based on early trends from the pre-orders on the PlayStation Store, it seems to be off to a promising start.
According to Shuhei Yoshida, former head of PS Studios, the release appears to be shaping up quite smoothly from what’s happening behind the scenes. (PlayStation Inside interview)
Playing Ghost of Tsushima was an amazing experience, and after getting my hands on Ghost of Yotei during different stages of its creation, I’m confident it’ll surpass Tsushima and once more, Sucker Punch has outdone themselves,” he gleamed.
Although Ghost of Yotei seems like a significant enhancement of Jin Sakai’s previous adventure, the creators from Seattle assure it will offer the largest map and the highest degree of freedom ever seen in a Sucker Punch production.
We’d love to see some added diversity in the gameplay and missions, while maintaining that exceptional gameplay experience the studio is renowned for. With just this, it could easily stand among the top PS5 exclusives of this generation so far.
