Summary
- The Skyrim Together team have released a new mod for Oblivion Remastered — Ghosts of Tamriel.
- It lets you leave Elden Ring-style messages for other players to read in their own worlds.
- However, it isn’t prompt-based. You can type whatever you want, which has some players concerned.
In the expansive wilderness of Cyrodiil, it can feel quite isolating to explore on your own. For the Oblivion Remastered game, the Skyrim Together team have reassembled and launched a fresh, Souls-inspired project titled Ghosts of Tamriel, which promises a new experience.
This modification enables you to write messages on Welkynd Stones that other players can see in their individual games. It comes equipped with an upvote and downvote system. Unlike games such as Dark Souls or Elden Ring (or originally Demon’s Souls), it’s not a game similar to Mad Libs where you fill in predefined prompts. Instead, you have the freedom to type whatever you wish.
Choosing a non-structured approach, where users aren’t limited to predefined options, might appear daring or overly hopeful regarding the community’s abilities.
Allowing anonymous users to freely post content within someone else’s game carries some potential risks, especially when you consider the wide range of things they might write (like ‘Try Finger But Hole’, which is debatably wholesome). So far, it’s primarily been positive, but many players are worried about where this could lead as the feature gains popularity. They’re urging the developers to either tighten moderation or make it a system that only responds to prompts, much like Dark Souls did. This move is intended to reduce potential issues and maintain a more controlled environment.
How It Works
Regarding the functioning of this mod: When composing a message, it remains visible for 24 hours. If your post receives an upvote, the timer resets; however, if your comment accumulates too many downvotes, it will be automatically deleted, thereby enabling the community to regulate itself. Additionally, you have the option to conceal messages within the game, whether they’re inappropriate or simply causing inconvenience.
Graves will also be left behind with a message when you die, think Dark Souls bloodstains.
The project is still being developed, with the team incorporating community suggestions and releasing enhancements for user convenience, like the 0.2 update that introduced controller compatibility. Despite being a work in progress, it’s already gained popularity. With 925 distinct downloads and 17,000 views, constantly increasing each time you refresh the page, yamashi and jay-jay are fostering a sense of community unity once more. Here’s to hoping the discussions remain positive.
