Lisa was feeling like a new woman at the 2025 Met Gala.
On her debut walk at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, the former member of Blackpink left spectators astonished as it appeared that the likeness of Rosa Parks was intricately stitched onto the hem of her jumpsuit.
However, as she prepared for her grand appearance at the renowned charity gala, the actress from “White Lotus” signaled that her snug-fitting Louis Vuitton lace blazer and bodysuit—a creation by Pharrell Williams, the brand’s men’s creative director—was influenced by artist Henry Taylor. In fact, Taylor was also the artist behind Pharrell’s recent cover for Vogue magazine last month.
In her May 6 YouTube video, Lisa pointed out that the piece recreates a work by Henry Taylor. She emphasized that viewers should zoom in to appreciate the detailed faces woven into the lace, remarking, “It’s amazing; you really need to see all the fine details.
In a recent interview with Vulture, a spokesperson for Taylor clarified that the figure depicted in Lisa’s Louis Vuitton outfit isn’t Rosa Parks, but rather one of Henry’s neighbors.
The representative explained that the faces appearing in this design, similar to those on Louis Vuitton garments showcasing Taylor’s artwork earlier, are derived from Henry’s personal experiences. These characters include family members, acquaintances, and neighbors. These figures are taken directly from Henry’s pre-existing artworks, which he shared with LVMH for Pharrell’s first collection with Louis Vuitton in 2023.
Besides the captivating lace patterns, Lisa’s outfit also showcased a unique shape, adorned with the Louis Vuitton Flower Monogram and embellished by hand with crystals. In fact, as the K-pop star was eager to break fashion barriers since the start of this grand event.
She remembered considering, ‘Should I put on pants, or shall we go for something more exciting, more enjoyable instead?’
Regarding the color choice, the 28-year-old opted for a color scheme that not only matched the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” but also something that would boost her self-assurance.
“When I wear black, I feel powerful,” she noted. It’s the perfect fit.”
Pharrell, who was among the co-chairs of the event along with A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Anna Wintour from Vogue, guided her through her initial appearance and assured her that she would captivate attention regardless of the circumstances.
Pharrell, one of the gala’s co-chairs together with A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Anna Wintour from Vogue, showed her the ropes before confidently telling her she would draw attention no matter what.
In simpler terms, Pharrell said, “From now on, keep standing tall because I believe you’re going to shine brightly tonight.
“It’s just gonna work,” he added of the daring design, “because this was made for you.”
In fact, the singer famous for “Happy” shared insights about the motivation behind her stylish, practical, and high-quality outfit design.
Drawing inspiration from this year’s Met Gala theme, ‘Superfine’, the Grammy winner stated, ‘This style reflects our affection for the color black, a favorite among many. However, it also showcases the refined taste and aesthetic sensibilities often associated with the Black community.’
