In a social media post, the creators and publishers of Palworld, known as Pocketpair, have shared updates about some modifications to the game that they find less than satisfactory. These adjustments are allegedly due to their legal disagreements over patents with Nintendo.
Pocketpair announced in its statement:
Starting from Patch v0.5.5, there’s a change regarding gliding mechanic. Instead of using Pals to glide, players will now require a glider in their inventory. While team Pals will continue to offer passive buffs for gliding, the act of gliding itself will be performed using the glider.
We acknowledge that this shift might not meet everyone’s expectations, but we believe it’s essential for maintaining the smooth progression of Palworld development. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused.
In the course of this ongoing legal dispute, Palworld has had to introduce another contentious adjustment, not being the first one. For instance, when patch 0.3.11 was released a few months back, the game altered the way players capture and summon Pal creatures using Pal Spheres by replacing the dynamic animation with a static one.
Nevertheless, update 0.3.11 brought about multiple user interface glitches and AI actions that temporarily halted Palworld’s functionality. There was speculation that these issues were caused by the ongoing legal dispute with Nintendo; however, Pocketpair’s latest announcement seems to have confirmed this suspicion as accurate.
Concerning the ongoing legal matters and Palworld’s evolution: We extend our heartfelt thanks and admiration to our fans for their unwavering support during these past months. Regrettably, we haven’t been able to disclose as much information as desired, but we place our trust in… May 8, 2025.
In essence, moving smoothly on your Pal in Palworld resembles the Fly skill used in Pokémon games, leading many to speculate that Nintendo might be asking for this symbolism to be eliminated due to their ongoing legal issues. However, it’s worth noting that the method of flying within Palworld itself appears to remain unchanged despite the shift from flying on Pals.
Flying is unaffected, you can still zoom around on your dragons :)May 8, 2025
Survival, Tomb Raider, and others.
In light of the recent alterations to the gameplay in Palworld, my beloved Xbox Game Pass game, I can’t help but feel a sense of disappointment. It seems that these changes are a consequence of the ongoing legal dispute between Pocketpair and Nintendo, which appears to have impacted the unique creative essence of
Is there a chance that Pocketpair could emerge from this disagreement victorious against Nintendo, or will they need to yield ground to Palworld to maintain their operations?
Stay tuned for more information as it comes.
