CORONATION STREET & EMMERDALE Crossover Episode Revealed

It’s been officially announced that the popular soap operas, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, will air a special joint episode in January 2026.

On the channel, there’s going to be a change in the schedule, where both soaps will now have condensed episodes that are a half-hour long each, airing every weekday for an hour starting at 8 pm.

On ITVX, the episodes will keep getting released daily at 7 am, allowing fans to catch them online early, just like how BBC iPlayer delivers EastEnders.

Instead, this upcoming hour-long special event serves as a kickoff for the forthcoming regular programming schedule, which is expected to commence shortly after this occasion.

The soap opera is standalone yet its intense, high-risk plotlines will affect both communities profoundly, creating lasting connections between them. Familiar characters will leave while fresh, intriguing personalities will join the series in both shows.

Soap enthusiasts are sure to enjoy this, but ITV clarified that it’s just a one-time event, so regular appearances aren’t on the agenda.

For the upcoming episode, an engaging feature is planned where fans will get the opportunity, announced via social media, to cast votes for two characters – one from each soap opera – who will eventually interact with each other.

So, who would we like to see interact?

According to ITV’s statement, they attribute the recent scheduling changes to discoveries showing that half-hour episodes generate higher viewer interaction. To demonstrate their dedication to this genre, they plan to debut a new soaps section on ITVX and boost their marketing efforts for it over the next few months.
