Hollywood has lost a beloved member.
Samuel French, who acted alongside Robert De Niro in “Killers of the Flower Moon“, passed away on May 10 after a struggle with cancer. His friend Paul Sinacore verified this information. At the time of his death, Samuel was 45 years old.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Paul shared that Samuel had been fighting a form of cancer which progressed throughout his body over the last two years. Sadly, he passed away prior to the premiere of their forthcoming movie, Towpath.
Samuel was not only a cherished friend but also an exceptional performer,” Paul expressed in a statement released on May 12th. “The character of Det. Bernard Crooke in ‘Towpath’ wouldn’t have been the same without him, and his intense portrayal greatly influenced the entire movie. Working with him was like embarking on an extraordinary creative expedition; we both poured our hearts into bringing our shared vision to life.
Samuel’s passion for acting shone through in every scene, raw, bold, and vibrant. He poured all of himself into his work, and it clearly showed. As a director, I am profoundly affected by his passing, and I can only imagine the impact the finished product would have had on him. Unique and irreplaceable, he will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Samuel, a Texan native, shared screen time with both Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone in the 2023 film directed by Martin Scorsese, titled Killers of the Flower Moon. In this movie, he portrayed FBI agent CJ Robinson.
Before his passing, Samuel took part in the movie “Towpath”, helmed by Paul, with Eric Roberts as the lead actor. In this production, the deceased character portrayed a detective who delved into a murder mystery unfolding in a small town amidst the civil rights era.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I’ve had the privilege to take on some captivating roles. Among them, you might recognize me from “Fear the Walking Dead,” a gripping series that has left audiences on the edge of their seats. Additionally, I was part of “Pegasus: Pony With a Broken Wing,” a heartwarming tale that resonated with many viewers. Lastly, I played a role in “Texas Rising,” an epic historical drama that delved into the rich history of our great state.
Just two weeks prior to his passing, Samuel was honored with the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2025 International Cowpokes Film Festival.
On Instagram, he posted on April 28: ‘This is my third time winning for Best Supporting Role! Last night at Monsters Within Movie @monsterswithinmovie @cowpokesff… I’m grateful! A big thank you to our director and writer, Devin Montgomery, for crafting a captivating character that allowed me to shine. Kudos to the rest of our outstanding cast!’
