For the 2024 fiscal year, Capcom’s consolidated financial results show impressive growth, surpassing previous records yet again. Specifically, Capcom announced an eight-year streak of record annual profits, with a net income amounting to ¥48.45 billion or approximately $328 million.
Beyond posting record earnings, Capcom also disclosed they’d sold approximately 51.87 million games, a new peak for the firm. The company attributed this success to the strong performance of its flagship series, and revealed that Monster Hunter Rise had sold over 10 million copies by the end of their fiscal year on March 31st.
In our Wilds review, we found ourselves quite fond of the latest Monster Hunter. However, I must admit that I’m eagerly awaiting if Capcom could allocate some of their substantial earnings towards releasing necessary performance updates for this top-selling game.
In addition to Wilds boosting Capcom’s sales, it’s important to note that Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter: Rise also contributed significantly during FY2024. Specifically, Monster Hunter: World added an additional 3.1 million units sold, while Monster Hunter: Rise sold another 2.4 million copies. This brings the total sales of the Monster Hunter series to over 100 million copies, a milestone that undoubtedly fills palicoes with pride.
Apart from the dinosaur-hammering antics, Resident Evil series has sold over 8 million copies by remaking different versions, while Street Fighter managed to gather over 1.3 million players for some fireball-throwing action. Notably, Dragon’s Dogma 2, a game acclaimed as Game of the Year by discerning minds, contributed another million sales to Capcom’s annual revenue.
Looking ahead, Capcom says its plans for the immediate future are focused on growing its catalog sales—that is, sales for games released in the previous fiscal year or earlier. In 2025, we can safely expect a continued emphasis on Monster Hunter Wilds post-release support (with an all but inevitable Master Rank expansion waiting somewhere in the wings). And hey, an Onimusha 2 remaster coming later this month can’t hurt.
