In the world of DC Universe (DCU), The Mighty Crabjoys, a made-up rock band, serve as a recurring element. They were initially mentioned in ‘Creature Commandos’ towards the end of last year and are anticipated to be spotlighted in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 this coming summer. The recently released ‘Superman‘ trailer marked our third encounter with The Mighty Crabjoys, although it was a discreet reference that fans swiftly recognized. It remains unclear whether this band is intended to remain as an Easter egg or if their role in the storyline will be expanded for a specific purpose. We might not get definitive answers until ‘Superman’ hits theaters on July 11th, and ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 starts streaming on August 21st.
Sharp-eyed viewers swiftly identified The Mighty Crabjoys in the Superman preview on Wednesday. They made their appearance at the trailer’s conclusion, with Superman reclining on his bed and Krypto the Superdog resting on his chest. A poster for the band adorned the wall above them – one of several clues suggesting this was his early bedroom. The notion that this group has been active since Clark Kent was a youngster leads to speculation about their fame and impact in the music scene.

As a die-hard movie fan, let me share some trivia: If you’re not in the loop, the quirky team known as The Mighty Crabjoys made their debut in the DCU during the second episode of Creature Commandos titled “The Tourmaline Necklace.” In that episode, Eric Frankenstein donned a tank top emblazoned with the band’s name and logo while squaring off against The Bride. Additionally, they had a fleeting moment in the trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, where they were prominently displayed on a city billboard. In that fast-paced clip, someone leaped over this billboard, propelling themselves from one building to another, shattering a window as they went!
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’ve been piecing together this intriguing puzzle, but I’m stumped as to how all the clues fit together. Social media is buzzing with discussions about The Mighty Crabjoys, some hailing it as clever world-building while others ponder if it signals the arrival of new characters in the story. The idea that Superman’s favorite band could be a team of superheroes or villains certainly sparks my curiosity, though it doesn’t seem essential given what we’ve witnessed thus far.
Absolutely, I, along with many other fans, am eagerly anticipating James Gunn, director and co-executive at DC Studios, to shed light on that intriguing Easter egg someday. Known for his transparency with fans, he usually shares such hidden gems with us eventually. I believe he’s biding his time to reveal the story of how that band found its place in the DCU when the moment is right.
On July 11th, you can catch Superman in theaters. Currently, Creature Commandos is available for streaming, which is soon to be known as HBO Max, and Peacemaker Season 2 is set to debut there on August 21st.
