5 Avengers We’re Dying to See on MCU TV Shows!

As a dedicated Marvel fan, I’m thrilled about the transformative steps Marvel Studios is taking in the small screen realm. They’re moving towards a strategy of “quality over quantity,” aiming to create fewer series but with a robust focus on multi-season narratives. This change also means that some of our beloved MCU heavyweights might not lead their own shows anymore, but they’ll still have substantial roles in other characters’ stories. Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, confirmed this strategy shift, emphasizing that while the Avengers won’t be the main actors, they can still make significant appearances. This adjustment seems to combat audience “homework” burnout while keeping the door open for electrifying crossovers and a universe that remains intricately connected. The focus now is on character-driven stories that stand strong independently.

The Avengers have already left a significant impact on Disney+. Characters like Hulk (portrayed by Mark Ruffalo) played a crucial part in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, while Don Cheadle’s War Machine was instrumental to the mystery of Secret Invasion. Notably, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) each starred in their own series, WandaVision and Hawkeye, respectively. Moreover, the upcoming Thunderbolts* is set to rebrand the team as the New Avengers, thereby solidifying Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Yelena Belova’s (Florence Pugh) roles, which were substantial in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye. With this new TV structure for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), there’s a wide array of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes ready to bring their stardom and unique abilities to the growing television side of MCU.

Here are five Avengers we’d be thrilled to see pop up in MCU TV shows.

1) Spider-Man

Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man, deeply connected to New York City, offers a persuasive character for inclusion in the MCU’s street-level TV stories. The growing focus on realistic storytelling within the MCU, as demonstrated by the continuing Daredevil: Born Again series featuring Charlie Cox, suggests a feasible setting for a possible collaboration. Such an encounter, even brief, could delve into the relationship between Spider-Man’s youthful vigor and Daredevil’s more seasoned justice perspective, adding depth to this particular segment of the MCU.

The main challenge when it comes to featuring the live-action Spider-Man is the intricate agreement on rights between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. Although Marvel Studios can create animated shows like “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” incorporating Tom Holland’s portrayal into a Disney+ live-action series would necessitate approval from Sony. If Sony were to give consent, a single or two-episode storyline in “Daredevil: Born Again” or another NYC-set show could be an ideal opportunity to capitalize on Spider-Man’s immense popularity and relatable street-level persona, delivering an exciting experience for fans.

2) Red Guardian

Following the incidents in Thunderbolts, the New Avengers, including David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian), have established their base in New York City. This setup opens up possibilities for some of these team members to become embroiled in local conflicts. Given Red Guardian’s dynamic persona, humorous backstory, and knack for stealing the spotlight, he seems perfect for a captivating guest role in one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s New York-based television shows. His mix of misguided bravery, hidden compassion could breathe a distinct vigor into almost any street-level narrative.

On his day off or during a minor assignment, the Red Guardian stumbles into a scenario that’s already being managed by characters such as Daredevil. This chance encounter sets the stage for an exceptionally enjoyable exchange, full of both humor and action. The Red Guardian doesn’t have to be the main focus of the season’s larger narrative, but his presence would create a standalone, humorous, and action-packed segment. This cameo fits perfectly with Marvel’s current TV approach, enabling an Avenger to make a substantial impact without requiring a separate series. By doing so, it also integrates the New Avengers more deeply into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and satisfies fans with more of this well-liked character.

3) Thor

Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of Thor continues to be one of Marvel Cinatic Universe’s main power players, a fact that inevitably makes any of his appearances costly for Marvel Studios. Post-Thor: Love and Thunder, the God of Thunder undertook a more intimate journey, taking on cosmic parenthood with Love (India Rose Hemsworth) and finding himself in a secluded part of the universe. This new trajectory stands in stark contrast to his extensive involvement during the Infinity Saga, suggesting a Thor who, despite being confirmed for the cosmic cataclysm Avengers: Doomsday, appears somewhat detached from the primary storylines of the Multiverse Saga.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but see the potential in a short TV stint to seamlessly reintroduce Thor back into the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This could be a captivating guest role in a space-themed Disney+ series or an unexpected visit to an Earthbound show. Such appearances would undeniably strengthen Thor’s lasting influence and significance within the MCU. It would also serve as a form of redemption for Chris Hemsworth, whose portrayal of Thor was previously inserted into an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., not without controversy.

4) Falcon (Joaquin Torres)

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Joaquin Torres, played by Danny Ramirez, has officially stepped into the role of the Falcon in “Captain America: Brave New World,” and he’s swiftly won over fans. Even though he’s displayed strong performances alongside Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in both “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and his recent big-screen debut as a flying Avenger, Torres has predominantly played a supporting role. Expanding his character by featuring him in other MCU television series could be an excellent approach to develop him further, provide more independent limelight, and reinforce the bond between the Avengers and the TV universe.

Sam Wilson, or more famously known as Falcon, had standout instances in other heroes’ ventures that cemented his position, such as the unforgettable confrontation with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). Similarly, Joaquin Torres should be granted comparable opportunities to flourish, displaying his unique viewpoint as a novice hero and demonstrating his abilities as the latest Falcon.

5) Rocket Raccoon

Embarking on my critical journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I can’t help but shine a spotlight on Rocket Raccoon, one of the galaxy’s brightest minds and the fearless leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. His quick wit, sharp intellect, and unparalleled combat skills make him a force to be reckoned with in the cosmic realms of the MCU.

Beyond his guardian duties, Rocket has earned the respect of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, having fought alongside them in various battles. He even worked under the guidance of the enigmatic Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow). This connection to the Avengers not only solidifies his status as a key player but also positions him ideally for weaving cosmic narratives into the fabric of MCU television shows.

Bradley Cooper’s vocal performance brings Rocket to life, imbuing him with charm, sarcasm, and a heartfelt vulnerability that keeps audiences engaged and invested in his journey. In essence, Rocket Raccoon is more than just an adorable raccoon; he’s a vital link between the cosmic side of the MCU and its television counterpart, making him an intriguing character to follow as the universe expands.

According to Marvel’s revised TV approach, a dedicated Rocket-focused series won’t happen. However, there could be an opportunity for him to make an appearance where his expertise is crucial, like advising on alien technology for S.W.O.R.D. This would underscore his significance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Such a guest spot would also highlight his bond with Earth’s heroes, while subtly reminding fans of the expansive galaxy beyond and the crucial part the Guardians, particularly Rocket, play within it.
