Currently, game-to-movie adaptations are experiencing a surge in popularity, leading companies like Ubisoft to feel confident enough to transform their action sports game, Riders Republic, into a movie as well.
The project was officially announced during a recent financial conference call by the French publishing company. It was disclosed that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who have recently directed “Bad Boys for Life,” will helm the live-action film. As stated by Ubisoft, this movie, set against the snowy backdrop of the Alps, promises uninterrupted action, humor, and jaw-dropping stunts.
The company’s past involvement in films and television has been quite diverse. While the film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed in 2016 fell flat, they have also been associated with more successful TV series such as Mythic Quest and Side Quest.
Considering their emphasis on sports, it seems likely that Ubisoft might draw inspiration from Sony’s Gran Turismo movie, as it shifted the narrative focus from just racing laps on a track, like in the game, to telling a story about an individual racer instead.
