SEGA and ATLUS have recently announced that the highly-anticipated game, “Persona 5: The Phantom X,” is set to be released globally for PC (available through Google, Apple, and Steam) as well as mobile devices on June 26, 2025.
This game, a spin-off from Persona 5 – a highly acclaimed installment in the Persona series – is often considered among the top-tier Xbox RPGs from recent times. It’s a role-playing game where players take turns to make moves, similar to a chess match.
Originally, this game (created by Black Wings Game Studio and P-Studio under ATLUS’s guidance) was exclusively accessible in China, Taiwan, and North Korea through mobile devices during early release. But, starting this Summer, the global audience will have an opportunity to experience it as well.
In the game Persona 5: The Phantom X, you assume the role of a band of teenage crusaders known as the Phantom Thieves. During the day, you lead a typical student life at high school. However, once night falls, you transform into masked heroes, venturing into distorted mental landscapes called Palaces that belong to corrupt individuals. Your mission is to change their malicious behavior by retrieving their valuables.
In the new computer game on the horizon, instead of the original Phantom Thieves from Persona 5, you’ll assume the role of a completely distinct gang of Phantom Thieves with no ties to them.
In addition to retrieving the ill-gotten wishes of corrupt individuals, you’ll also be tasked with restoring the forgotten dreams of the innocent.

In terms of gameplay, Persona 5: The Phantom X offers a mobile adaptation of the original Persona 5 experience. You’ll find yourself involved in part-time jobs and clubs outside of school, playing mini-games for fun, venturing into dungeons teeming with dangerous Shadows, and participating in strategic turn-based battles to enhance your power sources – the Personas.
In this game, you’ll encounter numerous subplots, character-driven events from non-player characters, and develop relationships with various characters due to the Synergy System integration.
Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a fresh group of thrilling Phantom Thieves, while also enlisting the help of the original Persona 5 Phantom Thieves such as Joker, Ann, Morgana, Makoto, and others by establishing Special Agreements (which function similarly to this game’s Gacha system).
Persona 5 continues to steal the spotlight after nearly a decade

It’s amazing to see that Persona 5 is still getting new spin-offs more than nine years after its initial release in 2016 on PlayStation 3. I can understand why ATLUS has kept backing this game, given it’s one of their most successful JRPGs ever, with sales exceeding 7 million copies throughout its lifetime.
In my own words, I wholeheartedly endorse Persona 5: Royal on Xbox, having awarded it a near-perfect score of 4.5/5 in my review. It captivated me with its engaging turn-based combat, immersive social life simulation gameplay, appealing characters, and enjoyable narrative.
In addition to Persona 5, its related spin-offs such as Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 5 Tactics are equally impressive and noteworthy.
Persona 5 Strikers offers an engaging hack-and-slash experience, and some might argue it boasts a more compelling narrative than the original Persona 5. On the other hand, Persona 5 Tactica delivers enjoyable strategy gameplay by combining the mechanics of Persona 5 with the tactical, turn-based combat reminiscent of games like XCOM or Wasteland.
If Persona 5: The Phantom X meets its high expectations, the reputation of Persona 5 will reach even greater heights than ever before.
