Nintendo Switch Online Adds Beloved N64 Game From 1996

2025 marked an exciting addition to my beloved Nintendo Switch Online library with a new N64 gem! It’s not every day we see fresh content added to the already impressive array of Nintendo 64 games available through Switch Online. So far this year, only Ridge Racer 64 had been added, making it the 40th playable title from the N64 on the service. But today, that number has increased to 41 with the arrival of another fan-favorite game!

Today marks the arrival of “Killer Instinct Gold” on Nintendo Switch Online. First introduced in 1996, “Killer Instinct Gold” represents the console adaptation of the arcade fighting game “Killer Instinct 2”. Over the years, it has earned a reputation as one of the most beloved fighting games ever to appear on the N64 and continues to be fondly remembered by gamers.

It’s exciting that Killer Instinct Gold has made its way onto Nintendo Switch Online. However, it’s important to note that this game can only be accessed through the premium “Expansion Pack” subscription tier of the service. Unlike the basic version of Switch Online, which grants users access to games from NES, SNES, and Game Boy systems, the Nintendo 64 games are exclusive to the “Expansion Pack,” a more expensive option that costs $49.99 per year. Though pricier, this tier might be worth the investment if you’re keen on revisiting some of the best N64 games in an easier manner than ever before.
