STALKER 2 received major 1.4 update. Patch makes shootouts tougher, giving mutants easier access to fresh corpses

In an update, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl version 1.4 was released by GSC Game World studio. They have detailed a comprehensive list of changes in a Steam post. The new patch brings significant alterations, such as rectifying the problem where bloody sausages and shot ducks were ending up in water instead of staying airborne.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but grin at the advancements unveiled in version 1.4 of the “second” STALKER. The developers have truly outdone themselves, refining numerous aspects, particularly the missions. They’ve addressed issues with NPCs who were either unresponsive or silent, and even rectified closed or glitched quests, including those from traders. Notably, they’ve also tweaked the game balance to ensure a smoother gaming experience.

More (in)human enemies

The key enhancements should be focused on advancing the ecosystem within Heart of Chornobyl, such as modifying the actions of other stalkers and creatures. These creatures will now consume decaying bodies and may exhibit heightened awareness in response to nearby occurrences, objects, or beings. Additionally, more distinct human characters have been incorporated to prevent excessive cloning.

The developers have enhanced the actions of people living within the Zone as well. They now utilize trees for concealment, and the hiding animations are more refined. Moreover, enemies collaborate during fights, using a combination of grenades, melee attacks, flanking tactics, and even kicking prone opponents. To ensure fairness, the effectiveness of shotguns used like sniper rifles by certain individuals has been decreased. Similarly, the behavior of mutants has been refined, not just in combat but also outside of it.

Update 1.4 introduces technical advancements such as enhanced facial expressions and audio enhancements, along with optimizations for the game’s speed and user experience. These upgrades involve a clearer presentation of weapon specifications within the inventory and incorporating crucial character details in the trade interface.

The complete rundown of the updates is available in the announcement posted on Steam. As of May 20th, the initial “STALKER” trilogy will be upgraded for free across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
