Friday the 13th Returns: New Jason Redesign Teased After 16 Years!

Enthusiasts of the “Friday the 13th” series, with their fondness for the masked antagonist, will undoubtedly be thrilled to learn that a new movie might soon be in the works. Just a week after unveiling the official emblem for the Jason Universe, Horror, Inc. has disclosed details about the upcoming version of Jason Voorhees. The fresh design was collaboratively conceived by Greg Nicotero, renowned for his special effects work on zombie projects like George A. Romero’s “Day of the Dead” and “The Walking Dead,” where he worked under Tom Savini, who designed the 1980’s “Friday the 13th” Jason and killed him off in “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

This design is intended to appeal to fans of the series, particularly those who consider the initial four movies as timeless masterpieces in the horror genre.

What Does Horror, Inc.’s Jason Look Like?

In this latest portrayal, Jason appears leaner and less decayed compared to his appearances in Kane Hodder’s four films. His physicality seems more aligned with how he was depicted in Friday the 13th Part III, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, and the 2009 remake. This is the last time we saw the character of Mr. Voorhees on the big screen, and a gap of 16 years is quite long. However, indications are that this lengthy wait has proven to be worth it.

The team at Horror, Inc. is determined to preserve the core values of the franchise when they release their multi-platform reboot of the IP. As Rob Barsamian, president of Horror, Inc., stated, “We aim to keep Jason’s authentic spirit alive while pushing forward into the future with a distinct style that embodies his upcoming adventures. We’re also collaborating with both veteran and new franchise contributors to achieve this balance.

How did the development of this fresh design unfold? As Barsamian put it, “We handed Greg our new 13-hole mask and collaborated on creating a full-body aesthetic that encapsulates the essence of classic Jason. He’s depicted as a powerful, imposing, and fearsome slasher wielding a machete, his preferred weapon.

Marc Toberoff from Friday the 13th LLC expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s truly exhilarating to reintroduce Jason Voorhees into the lives of fans with a daring and innovative approach. We’re delighted to collaborate with Horror, Inc. on this new phase of the series, preserving Jason’s legacy. Sharing their enthusiasm, we aim to ensure that this comeback satisfies long-time fans’ expectations while also catering to a brand-new audience.

The Jason Universe debuts, featuring “Crystal Lake” and Linda Cardellini portraying Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees. However, the Jason Universe won’t be confined to television screens as Sheri Conn, Horror, Inc.’s chief marketing officer, mentioned, “We’re taking fan feedback into account and are actively working on a range of projects under the Jason Universe brand, including new films, games, interactive experiences, collectibles, and much more. Our horror franchise is one of the longest-running in cinema history, and we’re eager to explore what the future holds for this universe and the slasher genre as a whole.

Stay tuned for updates on the future of the Friday the 13th franchise.
