Thora Birch Stuns at Rare Cannes Red Carpet Appearance

At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 16, the actress from Hocus Pocus, aged 43, gracefully stepped onto the red carpet for the premiere of her movie The Chronology of Water. Without a doubt, she was radiantly dressed in high-end fashion.

At a seldom-attended red carpet event, Thora opted for an oversized black suit, embellished with crystals dangling like water droplets. She was also spotted posing with her costars Kristen Stewart (who directed the film), Imogen Poots, and singer Kim Gordon. The four of them were captured in photos, all dressed in matching pink and black outfits.

Thora’s presence at the festival is worth mentioning, given that she’s been mostly out of the limelight for about ten years. However, she hasn’t entirely abandoned acting; she made an appearance in AMC’s “Mayfair Witches” this year and delivered a remarkable performance as Gamma in the tenth season of “The Walking Dead” in 2019.

In that role, she didn’t need to employ a great deal of vocal power, but what captivated her about the character led her to make her debut within the world of “The Walking Dead”.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in October 2019, she expressed her enthusiasm for exploring the world of the Whisperers after fully grasping their perspective in this post-apocalyptic setting. The season’s recurring themes of PTSD, deception, espionage, and her fondness for intense physical activities like sweating profusely and stabbing inanimate objects piqued her interest immediately. So, needless to say, she was really looking forward to it.

Thora’s recent part in “The Chronology of Water” follows a gap of nearly three years since she was absent from the 2022 sequel of “Hocus Pocus.” In that year, the actress, who famously portrayed Dani Dennison in the original 1993 movie, shared with Entertainment Tonight that her absence was due to scheduling issues.

She shared that there were three enticing possibilities for Dani’s return, and I was eager about each one at the moment. However, when it came to filming, I had moved onto another project.

Besides her, other original cast members like Omri Katz (Max), Vinessa Shaw (Allison), and Sean Murray (Thackery Binx) were also absent from the filming of Hocus Pocus 2. However, even though she wasn’t there, Thora still cherishes Salem as a place close to her heart.

She expresses her enthusiasm about the long-awaited release of “Hocus Pocus 2”, stating, “Indeed, I’ll be joining everyone else to watch it.
