In the highly acclaimed TV show Dexter, an impressive ensemble of guest stars take on the challenge of facing Michael C. Hall’s serial killer character, with one notable Marvel star coming close to joining them. It turns out that Jeremy Renner almost portrayed a series antagonist. Over the past 20 years, Dexter has become one of television’s most cherished productions and its popularity continues to grow due to streaming platforms and buzz on social media. New fans have been drawn in by the show’s intriguing themes, talented cast, and Michael C. Hall’s outstanding acting. Additionally, they discover that Dexter often confronts some truly twisted villains such as John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer.
The series has gained recognition by featuring renowned actors as chilling antagonists, with Clancy Brown, Colin Hanks, and Jimmy Smits all causing distress for Dexter Morgan in different manners, crafting compelling villains. The structure of the program enabled more prominent actors to appear for a single season, introducing fresh challenges for Dexter without requiring a long-term commitment, allowing them to take on other roles outside of the series. Michael C. Hall disclosed that he occasionally received proposals from actors eager to join the show. Before House of Cards, Kevin Spacey attempted to secure a villain role on Dexter, underscoring the significant interest the show attracted. Nevertheless, Spacey wasn’t the only A-list Hollywood star intrigued by the series.
Jeremy Renner Was Almost One of Dexter’s Greatest Villains
It’s interesting to note that during the first season of the show, Jeremy Renner was under consideration for the role of Brian Moser, also known as the Ice Truck Killer. However, it was later revealed in a 2014 interview with Dexter Season 1 director Michael Cuesta and Jeremy Renner that he was actually being considered to play Dexter Morgan’s long-lost brother. This role would have had Renner working alongside Michael C. Hall’s Dexter, helping him understand their unique bond as serial killers. Unfortunately, Dexter ultimately rejected his brother’s offer of unity and took him down instead.
In the end, Renner declined the part of Brian Moser in Dexter, as he was busy working on 28 Weeks Later. Additionally, he was hesitant to play another serial killer since he had recently portrayed Jeffrey Dahmer and wanted to distance himself from that role. He feared being stereotyped as a murderer. Fortunately, Christian Camargo delivered an outstanding performance in the role, and Renner might have approached Brian Moser quite differently.
In the upcoming series titled “Dexter: Resurrection,” a stellar cast is set to appear, including Peter Dinklage and Krysten Ritter who have previously worked in the Marvel universe. They are expected to face off against Dexter. Additionally, several characters from the original Dexter series, both living and deceased, will also be featured in “Dexter: Resurrection.” The show is slated for multiple seasons, potentially allowing for future guest appearances.
