Players of Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet can look forward to receiving a free unique Pokemon soon, but with a condition – attending the 2025 Pokemon Japan Championships. The reward will be a Pokemon from the previous year’s World Champion Team (2024). Not everyone may get this distribution, but another is planned for Wolfe Glick’s Incineroar, set to be released later this summer during the North American International Champions. After this code is out, there might also be an online release of the Japan Championships distribution.
At the 2025 Pokemon Japan Championships for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, attendees of the tournament will receive a unique Amoongus that was used by the 2024 Senior Division World Champion Ray Yamanaka as a special event gift. The event is scheduled for June 21st and 22nd, providing players with just two days to personally claim this distribution reward during the tournament.
Yamanaka’s Amoogus uses the moves Spore, Rage Powder, Protect, and Sludge Bomb instead of the usual Pollen Puff. While Pollen Puff helps heal teammates, Sludge Bomb deals significant damage and can poison an opponent, which is beneficial for inflicting damage on opponents and bypassing Pokemon with a Grass-type or those carrying Safety Goggles.
In the games Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, it’s common for players to opt for the Rocky Helmet when choosing items for Amoongus. Additionally, Sitrus Berry is another frequent pick. The Rocky Helmet works such that when Amoongus gets hit with a physical attack, it inflicts damage back on the attacking Pokemon. This feature harmonizes nicely with Amoongus’ Rage Powder move, and makes Amoongus an effective counter against the widely-used Water-type Pokemon, Urshifu.
In the 2024 Senior Division World Championships, Yamanaka triumphed using Amoongus as his main Pokemon, yet he wasn’t the sole member of his team. Completing the squad were Rillaboom, Raging Bolt, Calyrex Shadow Rider, Incineroar, and Urshifu Rapid Strike. Although Amoongus is primarily a supportive Pokemon, Yamanaka’s strategic use of Sludge Bomb transformed it into an offensive danger, particularly against the Fairy-type and Grass-type Pokemon that were prevalent under the tournament regulations.
It’s uncertain whether The Pokemon Company plans to provide a Mystery Gift Code for distributing Yamanaka’s Amoongus to those who couldn’t attend the tournament. Given their past actions, it wouldn’t be unexpected if they did, as they have previously distributed exclusive rewards like this to players around the globe.
