As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “Malcolm in the Middle” is coming back to life, with many of its original cast members set to reprise their roles! Among them is Malcolm himself, the talented Frankie Muniz. The revival, consisting of four episodes, will be accessible through a Disney+ subscription at some point (fingers crossed for the 2025 TV schedule). Filming began in April, and I can only imagine how demanding it must have been for Muniz to juggle production with his racing career – just thinking about it leaves me exhausted! Now that filming has concluded, Muniz’s enthusiastic post has me buzzing with anticipation for the new episodes.
Muniz took to Instagram earlier this week to commemorate the end of filming, reflecting on returning to Malcolm’s world after 19 years. Although there have been rumors in the past that a Malcolm in the Middle reboot or revival was in the works, nothing came to fruition until very recently, obviously. So all the excitement and emotions were warranted, as he wrote:
Recently finished shooting the Malcolm in the Middle revival, and let me tell you, it’s left me utterly astonished! This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary—it felt like slipping back into Malcolm’s chaotic universe, but with all the affection and madness turned up to maximum. Catching up with old friends, meeting fresh faces, sharing uncontrollable laughter, and creating cherished moments on set seemed surreal, almost too good to be true. The experience flew by so quickly, leaving me with a hazy collection of perfect memories that I never wanted to end. If only it could go on indefinitely.
Given the brief span of the revival, comprising only four episodes, it’s not surprising that he feels as if time has flown by, as indeed it seems to have done. However, this doesn’t diminish the fact that he and his on-screen family were reunited, with Erik Per Sullivan opting out of acting instead.
Later on, Muniz shared that the experience filled him with gratitude and reignited his passion for acting. No matter how long the remake lasts, I can’t wait to reconnect with the team from “Malcolm in the Middle”.
I’m overjoyed to have re-experienced this show, with a newfound admiration for the work we created, knowing that millions worldwide cherish Malcolm and his family. This journey has also confirmed my deep-seated passion for acting – a role I never fully embraced before, but now wear it as a badge of honor, aiming to expand my horizons in this field. It’s bittersweet to bid farewell to the Big Bang Theory team; each one of you holds a special place in my heart.
The heartfelt message accompanied by two photos from filming showed one image presumed to be Muniz in costume as the cherished title character. Although only two pictures were shared, the actor expressed that he had amassed numerous fantastic images of the cast, wishing to post more. Regrettably, Disney declined permission, so Muniz asked his followers to envision a photo capturing them all together, enjoying themselves to the fullest.
I’m hoping that once the show premieres, we’ll finally see those BTS photos. In the meantime, I’ll appreciate these alternative ones.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Frankie Muniz isn’t alone in the revival of our beloved series. Joining him are familiar faces like Jane Kaczmarek, portraying his mother Lois, and Bryan Cranston as his father Hal. Christopher Kennedy Masterson and Justin Berfield step into the shoes of Malcolm’s older brothers, Francis and Reese respectively.
However, it’s worth noting that the talented actor who played Malcolm’s younger brother Dewey, Eric, has retired from acting. In his place, we have Caleb Ellsworth-Clark taking on the role. Additionally, Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murrae, Keeley Karsten, and Kiana Madeira are also part of the cast in this exciting revival.
The release date for the Malcolm in the Middle revival hasn’t been set yet, since production has finished, we can only hope that it won’t be much longer until they announce both a date and a sneak peek. For now, enthusiasts will have to make do by watching the original series on Hulu with a subscription.
