Shonen Jump Cuts Another Two Series After Only a Year

While getting published in Weekly Shonen Jump can be a promising start for a manga, it doesn’t guarantee a successful future. There have been numerous manga series produced by Shueisha that didn’t receive their own anime adaptations and not all stories enjoy a prolonged run in Shonen Jump. Recent examples include “Astro Royale,” “Naked Hero,” and “Mama Yuyu.” Unfortunately, two more manga have come to an end: “Get Away, Matsumoto -100 Days Escape-” and “The World of SKK Girls.” If these titles are new to you, it might be best to remain unacquainted, as their future prospects appear grim.

Shonen Jump has been home to famous anime series like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia, and many more major franchises too numerous to mention. Being published in Shonen Jump doesn’t guarantee lasting success though; instead, the popularity of a manga story among readers decides whether it continues in the publication through reader preference and polls. The two series that have concluded both started in 2024, and it appears improbable at this stage that they will receive anime adaptations after their conclusion.

The Canceled Series of Shueisha

Jumping right in, let’s explore the completed series from Weekly Shonen Jump that I’ve been eagerly following. First up is “Get Away, Matsumoto -100 Days Escape-“, which debuted in 2024 with a total of twenty-seven captivating chapters. This manga is the brilliant creation of Tsuneharu Okusu. The story revolves around our protagonist, Matsumoto, who finds himself pedaling for survival in a heart-pounding narrative. Here’s Shueisha’s take on this high-octane series: “Once a three-time consecutive winner of the All-Japan Intercollegiate Road Cycling Championships, Mastumoto now spends his days delivering bikes to make ends meet. Just when he considers abandoning cycling for his future, Matsumoto finds himself smack dab in the middle of an extraordinary event… Buckle up for this thrilling, high-speed action!

In 2024, the unique manga series titled “The World of SKK Girls” made its appearance in Weekly Shonen Jump. Crafted by Taishou Akatsuka, it spanned thirty-four captivating chapters before concluding. Unlike traditional cycling-focused mangas, this series unfolds within a bizarre universe where humans are scarcely present, with only three enigmatic girls to be found. Shueisha, the publisher, characterized the discontinued series as follows: “In a world devoid of human presence, Katana, Saya, and Kodachi are inseparable friends, enjoying laughter and play amidst an eerie silence. However, beneath this tranquil facade, there seems to be a sinister force lurking in the darkness…?! The creator of “Muto to Sato,” Akatsuka-sensei, invites us on a fresh, unexplored journey—a blend of innocence and mystery in an uncharted world.

Shueisha’s Next Generation

In recent times, some major powerhouses have concluded their runs in Weekly Shonen Jump, with a number of series approaching their final chapters. For instance, “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “My Hero Academia” finished last year, while “One Piece” is still in the midst of its grand finale. This departure of heavyweights could pave the way for fresh series to make a mark. Titles such as “Kagurabachi”, “Centuria”, “Spy x Family”, “Dandadan”, and others are maintaining their momentum and may emerge as potential successors to the most prominent Shueisha series in the upcoming period.
