In just a few days, we’ll be almost at the point of unveiling Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. Already, some initial feedback has trickled in from people who’ve had a sneak peek at the film.
It appears that fans can feel reassured as the responses suggest that the remake is likely meeting, if not exceeding, their expectations, with mostly favorable feedback.
Indeed, a critic expressed their enthusiasm for the movie on Twitter, now known as X, stating it was “this year’s most astonishing surprise and undoubtedly the finest Disney live-action remake to date.” Quite a compliment!
A second reviewer concurred, stating that although the movie shares some common themes with the initial one, it also introduces fresh “innovative elements.
The movie was described by one critic as being “heartwarmingly rich” in character development for Lilo and Nani, surpassing the original version. Another reviewer noted that Stitch would win viewers’ hearts entirely, but they also lauded newcomer Maia Kealoha, who is gaining significant attention and appears to be a rising star.
Another person noted: “While some secondary characters could have received more attention (though I appreciate the new introductions), the upcoming #LiloandStitch 2025 manages to preserve the original’s powerful emotional foundation, with an increased emphasis on the relationship (and strains) between Lilo and Nani. It genuinely captures warmth in a way that some Disney remakes fail to do.
In a continuation of the original Lilo & Stitch released in 2002, we have a new installment featuring Kealoha as Lilo, with Chris Sanders reprising his role as Stitch. Alongside them, we have Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B Vance, and Zach Galifianakis lending their voices to the characters.
Following the release of Disney’s latest live-action adaptation of Snow White earlier this year, another live-action rendition based on Dreamworks’ animation, How to Train Your Dragon, is scheduled for release this coming summer.
