Michael J. Fox RETURNS to Acting After 5 Years…You Won’t Believe Where!

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve landed a role in Season 3 of Apple TV+’s beloved sitcom, Shrinking! The news dropped on Thursday, according to reports by The Wrap, alongside some fresh faces joining the cast – Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. Details about my character are under wraps for now, but I’m excited to join the main cast. This is my first acting gig since taking a five-year break, and it looks like it will be the first project to hit screens. Filming for Season 3 started in February, and while we don’t have an official release date yet, it seems we might be seeing me on your TVs as soon as next year!

2020 saw Fox announcing his complete retirement from acting, driven by worsening symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. In his published memoir, he elaborated that both his speech and physical movements were becoming unpredictable, and the exhaustion of a long day was taking its toll on him as well. Yet, he left open the possibility for another role, and it appears the TV series Shrinking is serving as an opportunity for a temporary return to the acting scene.

Joining the cast of “Shrinking” will reconnect Fox with executive producer Bill Lawrence, who co-created the 1996 ABC sitcom “Spin City.” Fox played a role in this show, and it significantly boosted Lawrence’s career. However, due to his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Fox had to step away from production. Despite this, he continued acting with necessary health accommodations. The high-speed nature of network sitcom production was too strenuous for Fox, but a streaming series like “Shrinking” is produced quite differently.

The series features Jason Segel in the role of Jimmy Laird, a cognitive behavior therapist who’s been grappling with grief since his wife passed away in a car accident. He experiments with unusual techniques to assist his clients, all while struggling to overcome his own self-destructive tendencies. Jessica Williams and Harrison Ford are among the other therapists at the same clinic, with Jimmy’s friends, relatives, neighbors, and patients making up the rest of the diverse cast.

Previously, it was announced that Daniels would portray Jimmy’s father in a guest role during Season 3. The specific roles of Cola, Gomez, and Fox have yet to be disclosed. Notably, Fox has not accepted any acting roles over the past five years; however, he did make a notable appearance in the Apple TV+ original documentary titled “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie“, which focused on his journey with Parkinson’s Disease. Many viewers eagerly await seeing Fox back in character after such a personal narrative.

Currently, both “Still” and “Shrinking” are available for streaming on Apple TV+. As of now, production for the third season of “Shrinking” is ongoing, but a specific release date has not been announced yet.
