In the comic series titled “One World Under Doom“, Doctor Doom’s character has been revealing unexpected facets since its debut. Following his acquisition of the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme in the 2024 storyline “Blood Hunt“, he’s shown an unstoppable force, eliminating anyone who dares to oppose him. He even managed to dismantle Hydra, leaving the heroes in a poor light for not eradicating them earlier. His victories over the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Masters of Evil have made these powerful teams appear as mere novices. The actions depicted in “One World Under Doom” have led readers to ponder Doctor Doom’s true objectives. In issue #4 of “One World Under Doom“, Doom faces a fresh challenge, one that the Sorcerer Supreme frequently encounters — confronting the lord of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu.
Thus far, Doom’s tenure as the Sorcerer Supreme appears distinct from previous holders such as Doctor Strange. Throughout much of his existence, Doom has honed his magical abilities uniquely compared to others. His confrontation with Dormammu demonstrates the innovative and unconventional methods he employs in wielding magic, making him arguably the most formidable Sorcerer Supreme yet.
Doctor Doom Uses His Magic in Dangerous New Ways
In an unexpected turn typical of Victor Von Doom, he initiates combat with Dormammu in a distinctive manner – employing a Doombot to deceive the cosmic titan and subsequently striking him with a powerful enchanted hammer. This approach is quite unlike anything we’d expect from Doctor Strange, who primarily focuses on magical combat rather than melee fighting throughout his heroic career. Interestingly, Doom continues to surprise us by utilizing the Eye of Agamotto to project demon-repelling light not as direct blasts, but instead molding it into layers and bending it, transforming himself into a star-like entity engulfed in a whirlwind of light. This unconventional use of magic catches Dormammu off guard, but he retaliates by summoning his horde of demons, overwhelming the new Sorcerer Supreme.
In contrast to Doctor Strange, who shies away from using magic in unconventional ways, Doctor Doom consistently employs his sorcery in innovative and unorthodox manners. Overwhelmed by a sea of demons, he concocts a fresh enchantment, utilizing the radiance of the Eye to pierce through them. Invoking the phrases “Flame on”, he bursts through the demons encircling him. Next, Doom devises another novel incantation, drawing upon the powers of Cyclops and summoning it with the words “optic blasts”, enabling him to force his way through the demon horde and narrow the gap between himself and Dormammu. In a final creative stroke, he summons another new spell, this time using the familiar word “Snikt”. Empowered with energy-based Wolverine claws, Doom impales Dormammu in the abdomen. Throughout his career, Doctor Doom has demonstrated an uncanny knack for utilizing the powers of Sorcerer Supreme in groundbreaking ways. Known as one of the most ingenious villains within the Marvel Universe, this propensity for experimentation underscores his potential as a formidable Sorcerer Supreme. Although Doctor Strange usually triumphs through his mastery of magic, Doom’s scientific background ensures he will always be pushing the boundaries of those powers, making him the most perilous Sorcerer Supreme ever.
Doctor Doom’s Use of Magic Is Genius
When Doctor Doom assumed the title of Sorcerer Supreme, people anticipated he would venture into uncharted territories. While Doctor Doom has always dabbled in magic, his application has typically deviated from that of Doctor Strange. Unlike Doctor Strange who wields magic as a master, Doom exhibits a warrior-king approach to combat, incorporating magic into his fighting style.
Over the years, Doom has been known for integrating technology to outwit adversaries, and he’s carried this approach over to his newfound powers as Sorcerer Supreme. Rather than engaging Dormammu in a battle reminiscent of Doctor Strange, Doom adopts an unconventional approach with magic, surprising both himself and his opponents.
Although Doom’s novel use of magic may not have been instrumental in securing victory over Dormammu — instead it led to the antagonist stealing the Eye of Agamotto, altering the course of the battle — it serves as a testament to his ingenuity.
In his battle against Dormammu, it’s clear that Doom erred, yet his innovative use of magic demonstrates the formidable threat he poses as the Sorcerer Supreme. Rather than adhering to traditional rules, Doom intends to apply magic in unexpected ways, which could lead to missteps but also underscores his ability to think creatively. This unconventional approach makes him the most dangerous Sorcerer Supreme of all.
