As an observer, I’m thrilled to share that “Smiling Friends,” one of the most highly-anticipated animated shows, is set to make a comeback on Adult Swim. Soon, a select few will get a sneak peek at Season 3! This series has made quite a splash with Adult Swim since its pilot episode was unveiled as an April Fool’s Day prank last year. The response was so overwhelming that it was quickly greenlit for a full series. And the surprises didn’t stop there – the entire first season aired in a single evening!

After achieving success with their debut season, “Smiling Friends” followed up with a second season that was even more popular among viewers than the first. Not long after, it was revealed that they were already working on a third season. Now in the development phase, a glimpse of “Smiling Friends” Season 3 is one of the many highlights Adult Swim will present at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this Summer. The creators themselves will be offering an exclusive sneak peek.

Excitedly speaking here as a fan, I’m thrilled to announce that according to the schedule of Annecy International Animation Film Festival, I’ll be attending the Smiling Friends panel on June 11th! It’s promised to be a fascinating behind-the-scenes exploration of this popular Adult Swim series, offering an exclusive sneak peek into the upcoming third season. This is just one of the many enticing panels organized by Warner Bros. Animation for the festival, and I can hardly wait for the glimpses of future Adult Swim projects that those attending will get. Here’s hoping that the new season isn’t too distant from its release!

Smiling Friends co-creator Michael Cusack shared with ComicBook that the upcoming new season is progressing exceptionally well, having had two seasons to develop the characters more deeply. He cautiously avoids revealing spoilers, but assures it’s going great. Zach [Hadel] and he are writing, and production is underway. The pace of YOLO doesn’t hinder their progress as Cusack can easily switch between shows. In other words, things are moving smoothly for the new season of Smiling Friends.

Smiling Friends Is a Big Hit for Adult Swim

Based on information from Warner Bros. Discovery, the shows “Smiling Friends” and “My Adventures with Superman” have been significant successes for Adult Swim in 2024. In a report they released, it was detailed that Adult Swim is a top 10 cable network among adults, achieving its third straight quarter of primetime growth in Q2 with a 14% increase in ratings. The second season of “Smiling Friends” has seen a 28% increase in ratings compared to the average of the first season, while the second season of “My Adventures with Superman” is showing an improvement in ratings over the previous year.
