Sonic Wings Reunion Resurrects a Classic Shmup Series for PS5, PS4

You might recognize Sonic Wings, more commonly called Aero Fighters, as an iconic shoot ’em up game that some of you may have encountered while playing on the Super Nintendo console.

The character first appeared on PlayStation through Sonic Wings Special, a compilation game that merged content from the franchise’s initial three games and adapted them for PlayStation. It was also released on Sega Saturn, to give credit where it’s due.

After several decades since the last game in the series was launched, a new title called Sonic Wings Reunion is being developed, and it’s set for release on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Set for release on the 7th of October, the project is spearheaded by Shinya Nagatomo, while renowned artist Fumihiko Nanahara contributes to the creation of original characters, and Soshi Hosoi lends his expertise in sound design.

The complete game offers eight unique characters that can be played on eight different levels, enabling local multiplayer collaboration. It also includes a practice mode and an option to personalize the background music, which features tunes from previous versions of the game.

Additionally, a tangible version will soon be up for pre-sale, with further information about it expected on the 27th of May.

You can obtain this item earlier by downloading it from the PlayStation Store, but the Japanese version won’t be officially released until later this month. If you prefer a wider language support, such as English, you might want to wait for the Western release, which will offer broader linguistic options.
