Nintendo Switch 2 Will Bring Back Feature That Uses HD Rumble to Find Lost Controllers

Nintendo is planning to reintroduce an enhanced version of a feature from the original Switch, known as finding a lost controller within connection range, on their new Switch 2 model. This functionality can be accessed via the console’s controller screen and enables users to cause the controller to vibrate forcefully, making it easier to locate. The discovery was made by user Stealth40k on social media platform X.

On the main screen, you can effortlessly switch between two users by navigating to the Controllers section. In this area, you’ll find the ‘Find Controllers’ option. Press it and you’ll be taken to another screen where you can choose a controller to locate. Once chosen, press a button, initiating an attempt to connect the console with the selected device. If successful, the chosen controller will activate its HD Rumble feature, producing a unique sound – a deep buzz first, followed by two higher-pitched buzzes.

It’s important to mention that neither the Switch 2 Pro Controller nor the JoyCon 2 lack built-in speakers. Instead, they produce sound by vibrating at frequencies loud enough to be heard. Consequently, this function won’t operate on controllers lacking hardware capable of vibration.

In the original Nintendo Switch, there was a feature that allowed users to locate a misplaced controller by making it vibrate powerfully due to HD Rumble technology. Since the new Nintendo Switch 2 boasts improved hardware and more potent rumble capabilities in its controllers, the noise produced when activated on these newer devices will presumably be significantly louder.

In a matter of weeks, starting June 5, Nintendo plans to unveil the next version of their popular gaming console, the Switch 2. During its latest financial report, the company projected they could sell approximately 15 million units of this new device within the following year. This projection is based on the sales figures from the initial release of the original Switch, as indicated by Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa.

Furukawa stated that we anticipate selling 15 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2 within this current fiscal year. This estimate is based on a goal similar to the sales of the original Nintendo Switch during its first 10 months, from its launch in March 2017 up until the end of December that same year.

Furukawa added that the cost of the Switch 2 could potentially fluctuate based on any future alterations in US import taxes. Essentially, he stated that their immediate concern is to swiftly promote the Switch 2 hardware. Should there be significant shifts in tariff assumptions, they plan to reassess the necessary price adjustments and implement them only after careful consideration of all relevant factors.

Furukawa, Nintendo’s president, indicated that the projected sales for the Switch 2 might be more moderate due to its higher price point compared to the first Switch model. He suggested that this price difference could pose challenges when it comes to the console becoming popular quickly. In other words, he stated that because the Switch 2 costs more than the original Switch, there may be significant barriers to its rapid widespread use.
