Netflix will now be the streaming platform for the popular children’s program “Sesame Street,” which is set to air on the service before its 56th season this year. Previously hosted by HBO Max, Netflix has secured the rights to stream “Sesame Street” moving forward.
Starting from Season 56, which is set to premiere in 2025 (exact date TBA), Sesame Street will make its new episodes available on Netflix. Additionally, Netflix users will get to enjoy over 90 hours of classic Sesame Street content that can be streamed. Fortunately, this transition doesn’t signify the end of free access to Sesame Street for everyone.
For over 50 years, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has offered “Sesame Street” free of charge to the public, and they plan to keep it that way with Season 56. Fresh episodes from this beloved series will simultaneously air on traditional PBS channels and digital platforms like PBS KIDS. In a unique arrangement, Netflix will have the global exclusive rights for “Sesame Street,” while still sharing U.S. distribution rights with PBS. Furthermore, Netflix is granted the privilege to create “Sesame Street” video games as well.
Next season on Sesame Street, you can expect some changes. In fact, the show has been evolving towards a fresh approach over the last few years. Beginning with Season 56, each episode will focus on a single, extended story that runs for approximately 11 minutes. Fan favorites like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will make a comeback, and we’ll also see new segments such as Cookie Monster’s new Cookie Cart and Abby Cadabby’s Fairy Garden. So buckle up for an exciting new chapter on Sesame Street!
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming Season 56 of “Sesame Street” will be rolling out in three exciting installments on Netflix, starting towards the end of this year. This new season promises a fresh perspective, as the Emmy-nominated Halcyon Person steps into the role of the show’s head writer.
On Monday morning, Netflix and Sesame Street unveiled their new partnership using one of Sesame Street’s most cherished characters as a helper. A brief clip shared on both companies’ social media platforms features Cookie Monster engaging with the Netflix logo, which can be viewed in the video linked below.
Currently, Netflix hasn’t disclosed which Sesame Street episodes will be part of their upcoming streaming collection. However, there’s a possibility that additional episodes might be added at a later date following the initial launch this year.
